Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Bottom Plays, Pot Stocks & More

Legacy Platinum Group, Inc. LWSP
The latest addition to our cannabis watchlist, we introduced LWSP in yesterday’s daily report. After consolidating off of a recent 39-cent high, the stock has made higher highs and higher lows off of its bottom.

Yesterday the stock traded from its low of .187, and ran 12% into the close, ending the session at its high-of-day, .21. We always like to see a stock finish on a high note, as it is often a precursor to further gains.

BARCHART.COM is currently giving LWSP a 96% Overall “Buy” Rating

MannKind Corp. MNKD

MNKD serves as the latest example of why we highly suggest all of our readers keep a running list of the stocks we place in our daily Extended Watchlists.

We included this play in Friday’s report as it had been in near free-fall and the possibility of a bounceplay was present. The stock ended up finding support at 4.02, and yesterday after-hours we spied a PR regarding recommendation from an FDA Advisory panel to green-light the company’s AFREZZA(R) insulin inhalation powder.

As a result, the stock is gapping up significantly in pre-market action today, so we’ll want to keep a close watch over this potential breakout play.

VALENCIA, Calif., April 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MannKind Corporation (MNKD) today announced that the Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted 13 to 1 to recommend that AFREZZA(R) (insulin human [rDNA origin]) Inhalation Powder be granted marketing approval by the FDA to improve glycemic control in adults with type 1 diabetes and voted 14 to 0 to recommend that AFREZZA be granted marketing approval by the FDA to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. If approved, AFREZZA would be the first ultra rapid-acting mealtime insulin therapy available in the United States. >> FULL PR

Alternative Fuels Americas, Inc. AFAI

Speaking of potential bottom plays with fresh news on the wires, we caught AFAI in our morning scan today, and as it turns out, this is another marijuana-related stock. That fact alone is enough to grab our attention.

We have yet to see much news in this sector from Florida, one of the latest states with a medical marijuana initiative on its ballot, so we’ll be interested to follow this storyline as well.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla., April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Alternative Fuels Americas, Inc. (AFAI) announced today that its subsidiary Marijuana Holdings Americas, Inc. has founded and will sponsor the Florida Cannabis Industry Association (FLCIA), the primary trade association for Florida’s emerging cannabis industry. >> FULL PR

Prana Biotechnology, Inc. PRAN

In Monday’s Extended Watchlist, we called PRAN a “Huge gap down, possible bounce-play”. The downward pressure continued through yesterday’s session, and the stock closed at 2.30, just .03 off of its low.

This morning, we are seeing the beginning signs of a potential recovery; PRAN is gapping up to the tune of 4% in pre-market trading. We’ll continue to keep this stock on watch, in the event it can regain some of its recent lost ground. Trading over $10 as recently as March 26th, a return to even a fraction of those levels would mean significant opportunity for the sharp trader.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: FRTD, A Word on the Cannabis Sector

Fortitude Group, Inc. FRTD

We sincerely hope that our readers caught yesterday morning’s report, and read all the way through to the Extended Watchlist where we included FRTD as new cannabis momentum play. The head of steam that the stock began to build on the heels of a recent series of PR’s regarding the company’s entry into the trendy cannabis sector led to continued advances during yesterday’s session.

We saw FRTD touch a low of .0081 before exploding to its high-of-day at .018, a positive intraday move of 122%

FRTD is just the latest in the long line of companies we’ve seen take advantage of the hysterical nature of 2014’s “Green Rush”. While much of the initial fervor we witnessed in December and January has relaxed, don’t expect to stop hearing about this sector anytime soon. In fact, as more and more data comes in, we expect the marijuana business to grow exponentially as each state realizes the financial benefits and caves to economic pressure.

This hypothesis was reinforced by the January tax numbers from Pueblo Country, CO (where the substance is now completely legal) came in. See THIS ARTICLE, which shows that based on their January tax income from marijuana sales, the county stands to increase their annual bugdet by nearly 5%  Colorado is currently serving as an experimental template, and you can be sure that all across the nation, legislators and business people alike are watching intently.

In other news, US banks are quickly clearing hurdles in the way of providing services to pot-related business, and the general sentiment in Washington, is to let this all play out naturally. Even the current administration has made statements which set the table for widespread marijuana reform. Several legislators have petitioned the president to reclassify marijuana, a relatively harmless substance when considering the fact that it now shares a classification with heroin and similarly dangerous drugs.

While many obstacles remain to be navigated, the proverbial ball has begun rolling, and it seems now that there is little that can ultimately stand in the way of progress.

ERBB, AEGY, BDSI & Extended Watchlist

Tranzbyte Corp. ERBB

We highlighted ERBB on Friday and the stock came out swinging, continuing the momentum that was building in the previous session. It came out of the gate strong, running quickly from a low of .0119 up as high as .0154. That marks a respectable intraday move of 29%As the stock pulls back off of that run, we’d like to see support hold over a penny, and will be monitoring the situation for any possible bounce opportunities.

Alternative Energy Partners, Inc. AEGY

We’ve had AEGY on our radar since last spring, and after a serious increase in recent trading activity, we wanted to bring it back into the conversation. The stock has been in full-on breakout mode for the past couple of sessions, and appears to want to gap up even further this morning.  What we are going to want to do is watch carefully for any possible dip-and-rip opportunities. Stocks that gain so much ground over so short a time-frame are susceptible to high volatility and sudden pullbacks, and are often followed by what can be very lucrative bounceplays for quick-witted traders.

This is another of the medical marijuana related stocks that we’ve been tracking for a long while. AEGY, in particular, operates pharmajanes.com an online dispensary for California residents, but the list of companies that we’ve tracked cover every part of the sector, from medical to legal cannabis, to growing apparatus, and more.

To list a few of the standouts we’ve tracked over an extended time: EAPH, FITX, CBIS, HEMP, PHOT, MJNA, SKTO, TRTC, EDXC, MWIPD, EXMT, CANN, MDBX, GWPH and that’s only a partial list. Cannabis has been allowing a lot of people to cash in via the stock market, and we expect the opportunities to keep coming.

BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. BDSI
BDSI appeared in Friday’s Extended Watchlist and made a notable 16% intraday move, trading from a low of 8.18 to 9.49 on almost 15M shares traded. The spike in price and volume comes on the heels of Thursday’s PR regarding positive testing results for the pain medication the company has under development:
