Fresh Ideas for Big Name Earnings & More

Weekly Options Pop Off:

The back and forth choppiness of the markets recently has really been something to see, and after a rough start to the week on Monday, yesterday’s session flipped and went very bullish. Of the three quick-strike options trading ideas that we formulated in our premarket report, all three produced some very nice gain opportunities. We’ll hold off on the set of August calls we hashed out for NVS, and just focus on the short term plays.

Those contract sets targeted were the HAL Weekly $28.50-29.50 Calls, the JNJ Weekly $172.50-177.50 Calls, and the IBM Weekly $134-131 Puts. They all turned in good cards for the day, and provided ourselves and our readers with the following intraday gain chances:

HAL Weekly $28.50-29.50 Calls
$28.50: .80-1.29 (+61%)
$29: .53-.99 (+87%)

Using the SPY to Our Advantage, 3 Fresh Ideas

SPY Puts Surge:

Once again yesterday, the markets losses are our gains. Our lone options trading idea for the day focused upon a dim view of the SPY, and with another precipitous decline for stocks, we hit the nail right on the head. This is among the reasons why our readers see SPY plays in our newsletters on a highly regular basis, as it tends to be easier to predict the actions of the markets as a whole than it is do so the same for just one. The SPY also sees a lot of intraday volatility which can often lead to opportunities on both sides of the fence in a single session.

In terms of yesterday morning, due to a bit of a drought of earnings reporters, our premarket report contained only one idea, which was the SPY 06/13 $385-383 Puts. Those targets offered up the chance at the following really nice intraday profit chances:

 SPY 06/13 $385-383 Puts
$385: 4.24-11.01 (+160%)
$384: 3.46-10.50 (+203%)
$383: 2.84-9.67 (+240%)

Fresh Options Ideas:
ORCL Weekly $70-72.50 Calls
COP Weekly $110-112 Calls
FERG Weekly $100-110 Calls

DRRX Update, FDX Options

DURECT Corp. DRRX – Review

With one half session remaining before the midweek holiday hiatus, and the earnings calendar once again void of activity, we want to circle back to a recent mention of ours in DRRX. We placed the stock on our radar last month on the 12th, and in the roughly five weeks since, it had really begun to put up some solid performances.

Subsequent to its inclusion in our premarket report on 11/12, DRRX registered a low of 1.72, and yesterday the stock once again registered a new high of 3.00. That’s an overall increase of 74% The stock also closed just a few cents below its high of day, so we’ll continue to keep an eye on its activity.

FedEx Corp. FDX – Fresh Options Idea

FedEx recently reversed and bounced off of its lows, and now appears to be in position to begin filling a gap on the chart. In anticipation of this we are going to place a range of calls in the FDX chain on longer term watch.

We;re going to go out to the FDX 01/31 $157.50-160 Calls to continue to track through the holidays and into the new year.
