Blue Horseshoe Stocks: SPY Puts

SPDR S&P500 ETF (SPY)

With a bearish market pattern continuing to emerge, we have to be ready to roll with the punches as best we can and use whatever momentum we can find, whether it’s upward or downward. Traditionally, the SPY has been our go-to in these kinds of instances.

It was just Tuesday morning that we signaled a range of five SPY Calls, which all produced big-time gain opportunities this midweek, ranging from 184-245% Now, with the markets looking to pull back once again, we’ll hop right to the other side of the fence and zero in on some SPY Puts to close out the week.

The targets that we’re going to be monitoring today are going to be the SPY Weekly $263.50-262 Puts*, which should work out nicely for possible quick-strike daytrades in the event that the premarket trends we’re observing do persist.

*NEVER trade options with a weekly expiration on a Friday unless you are an advanced level trader working with disposable funds.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: ALQA Recap & More

Alliqua, Inc. ALQA

The big winner off our premarket watchlist in yesterday’s report turned out to be ALQA, which had a hard spike early in the session and continued to push more steadily upward over the course of the day leading to a strong close. The activity was fueled by the news that the FDA granted 510(k) clearance for ALQA’a SilverSeal Hydrogel wound dressing.

From its early low of .258 the stock traversed its way up to .45, which goes down as a 74% intraday gain. The move came on nearly forty times the monthly average volume on the stock, and as we just mentioned, it also closed with strength, just a penny below the high of day.

After hours trading also saw the stock achieve a high of .51, and it appears as if it could gap up slightly to start the day. We’ll be on the lookout for signs of a continued uptrend here as we head into this midweek.

Uni-Pixel, Inc. UNXL

Despite looming bankruptcy proceedings for UNXL, our bottom-feeder instincts have kicked in as the stock was punished down to a new all-time lows yesterday and is showing signs of a possible rebound this morning.

This NASDAQ could certainly be on its way to an OTC Markets listing in the future, being nowhere near the minimum bid requirements for the higher exchange. But for the time being, we’re only interested in its immediate situation. Over-abused stocks have had a historical tendency to produce some very nice moves for us as they correct course, so we’re going to place UNXL on watch in coming days.

Rimrock Gold Corp. RMRK

We also wanted to swing back around for a quick update on RMRK this morning. We placed this one on watch last Wednesday morning, catching it before it ran over 300% from .0006-.0025 that afternoon.

After a sharp pullback to .0008 over the ensuing few sessions, the stock  rebounded yesterday, returning to a high of .0019 which marks a 138% swing.

We’ll be watching for it to continue to register higher lows on any further pullbacks. Any stock with this kind of price action and volatility is one that we definitely want to keep a close eye on for more quick strike trade opportunities.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Friday’s Big Winners & More

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. ANF – Options Recap

We initially placed a pair of options ideas for ANF on watch in our premarket report Thursday, highlighting the ANF Weekly $10 & $11 Calls.

We saw multi-bag moves in those contracts that day, and Friday morning, we noted yet another premarket gap-up from the stock, mentioning that we would continue to track for more gains.

. The $10 Calls traded up to a new high of 2.41, and from our observed low of .60 on Thursday, extended  the total move we saw to 302%  The $11 Calls ran to a new high of 1.38, which from our witnessed low of .11 represented a monster two-day swing from Thursday’s low of 1154%

DSW, Inc. DSW – Options Recap

We went very options-heavy in our reports throughout last week, and another idea that bore fruit on Friday was one we formulated on Tuesday morning, with the DSW 09/15 $17.50 & $20 Calls.

In this case, the $17.50‘s were as low as 1.15 after our signal, and closed at 2.72 on Friday, marking a four-session swing of 137% The $20’s ran from .30 to as much as .80, for a 167% move.

There’s still plenty of time before expiration on these contracts, so we won’t rule out seeing further positive activity in the days and weeks ahead.

Amazon, Inc. AMZN

To keep this options train chugging down the tracks, we’re going to highlight a range of contracts in the AMZN chain.

AMZN stock itself has been under consolidation and is presently sitting around an area of previous support. A lot of eyes are on the company as well as its first day as the official owner of Whole Foods brought sweeping price cuts at the high-dollar supermarkets.

We’re going to look to the AMZN 10/06 $965-980 Calls for an extended term idea, which could yield significant gains once a reversal occurs on the chart.

Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc. TNDM

We also want to place TNDM on watch for the reasons outlined in the annotated chart below. The stock cracked its 50DMA last week after recently having fallen to new lows, so we want to put in on the radar for a potential recovery play.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: DXTR, Options Recaps & More

Dextera Surgical, Inc. DXTR

Among our extended watchlist plays slated for observation in yesterday’s premarket report, was DXTR, a stock that we intially tagged on June 1st, and in which we witnessed a subsequent low of .1745. We included a second reminder on June 12th, and of course once again yesterday morning.

Yesterday the stock put up a fine intraday performance en route to setting new highs for us. From its daily low of .275, it ran as high as .3855, which comes out to a 40% jump. From our original low earlier this month, DXTR has risen 121% Volume over the past week has picked up considerably, and yesterday the stock traded more than five times its monthly average volume.

It also held more than half of its daily gains on that volume. In such instances, we always lookout for a continuation of momentum into the ensuing session.

Darden Restaurants, Inc. DRI – Options Idea

In the wake of a hearty earnings beat on DRI, whose chains include Olive Garden, Red Lobster and LongHorn Steakhouse among others, we focused on some options ideas, the DRI 07/21 $90-97.50 Calls.

While the moves weren’t quite on the level of many of our options calls, which often yield percentage gains in the hundreds and thousands, there’s still plenty of time before expiration and all the contracts in our observed range got off to a solid start.

$90 Calls – Range: 3.40-5.70 – Max Gain: 68%
$92.50 Calls – Range: 1.94-3.50 – Max Gain: 80%
$95 Calls – Range: 1.02-1.95 – Max Gain: 91%
$97.50 Calls – Range: .52-.94 – Max Gain: 81%

As we pointed out, these contracts don’t expire for a few weeks, so we’ll continue to keep an eye out for further activity in DRI.

Fresh Options Idea: Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. CBI Weekly $20-22 Calls

Sophiris Bio, Inc. SPHS – Update

We want to keep SPHS on watch as well. We tagged this as a bottom play on Monday, and it has since made a modest move from a low of 2.07 to 2.41. While it just works out to a nominal gain of 16% so far, we’ll remain interested for as long as it maintains its new trend of recording higher highs and higher lows as it has each day this week.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Potential Bottom-Plays & More

 Bottom-Watch Plays

We want to start things off this morning by highlighting a couple of stocks on the higher exchanges that are both currently trading at a low multiple. Stocks that trade on the NASDAQ and NYSE at less than a dollar per share for at least a month can face de-listing procedures, so companies in danger of this tend to go to great lengths to buoy their stock price.

We’re always on the lookout for possible bottom plays so we’re going to be tracking both of the following in coming sessions.

Cobalt International Energy, Inc. CIE – The de-listing alarm bells haven’t quite gone off yet at with CIE, as the PPS just fell below a buck toward the end of last month. The stock also has a recent track record of brief periods of sub-1.00 trading from which it has promptly recovered each time.

This leads us to believe that the company may not even get to the point of receiving a notice from the NYSE before share price sees a recovery. We’re going to want to be on the lookout for that potential rebound.

______

Alliqua Biomedical, Inc. ALQA – In the case of ALQA, a NASDAQ play, the situation is a bit more pressing. Shares fell below the dollar mark at the beginning of September, and the company did receive its ‘failure to satisfy listing requirement’ notice back in October. The PPS has lagged ever since, and has only until the end of April to re-attain the dollar mark, or face delisting.

We’ll be interested to follow along to see what efforts are untaken to once again satisfy listing requirements. In the meantime, the stock has found a reasonably solid base of support off of recent lows, so we’ll be on the lookout for possible rebounds.

Viacom, Inc. VIAB – Options Idea

Our regular readers know full well that we love a good earnings-related options idea, and that’s what we’ve got this morning with Viacom. The company just posted an impressive earnings beat, along with strategic guidance updates that has the stock rocking in the premarket.

We’re going to be keeping our eyes open upon the opening bell, and tracking the activity in the VIAB Weekly $44-45.50 Calls.
