Blue Horseshoe Stocks: ODP Update, FRO & More

Frontline, Ltd. FRO

The last time we mentioned FRO was early this month, at which time the stock was trading at a low of 1.33. It has been ramping its way up over the past few sessions, making higher highs and higher lows, and we wanted to flag it once again this morning as it is trading up significantly in the premarket.

This morning’s high of 2.15 represents an increase of 61% over the 1.33-low that we observed as recently as Monday. With the heavy early-morning momentum we’re seeing we’ll want to follow along with this play closely today and into next week.

Talisman Energy, Inc. TLM

We’ll keep an eye on TLM today as well based on some heavy premarket activity and the fact that the stock is coming up off of its 52-week lows. We’ve noticed a break on the chart due to a gapdown from around 5.60 to 4.80, and with the stock currently trading in the 4.40’s, we should be on the lookout for it to possibly make a run at filling that gap.

ChemoCentryx, Inc. CCXI

Also popping up on our morning scan is CCXI, which is currently trading feverishly in the premarket on the heels of a PR early this morning regarding positive top line results on one of its products currently in testing.

With the stock up over 100% in early trading, we’re going to be on the lookout for massive profit-taking to potentially drive the price back down where it may set us up to take advantage of a dip-and-rip opportunity.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 12, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ChemoCentryx, Inc., (CCXI), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on autoimmune diseases, inflammatory disorders and cancer, today announced positive top-line 52-week data from its Phase II clinical trial in diabetic nephropathy with CCX140, an inhibitor of the chemokine receptor known as CCR2. >> FULL PR

Office Depot, Inc. ODP

ODP was a good call for yesterday’s session, as it made a solid 8% move on news that a large activist investor took up a significant position in Office Depot while raising its existing stake in Staple stock to 10% total ownership. It is fueling speculation that there could be pressure for a merger between the two, so this is definitely a story we’ll continuously track going forward.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Update on AEZS & More

AEterna Zentaris, Inc. AEZS

Our Monday morning report this week included AEZS as a potential bottom play which we did end up timing perfectly, seeing an 18% intraday move (.55-.65) during that session.

We also focused in on AEZS yesterday morning, mentioning that further opportunities appeared possible, and were rewarded for the second straight day. The stock traded in a range from .67-.79, which registered as another 18% intraday jump.

Yesterday’s high marked an overall increase of 43% and provided an excellent example of why the setting of new all-time lows in a given stock is a phenomenon that will draw our attention every time.

We’ll continue to monitor this play as the week progresses, but all in all, we consider it to be a success already, with the chances it has given us to make solid gains over a period of just two days.

Quick Update on TASER International, Inc. TASR

We wanted to update readers on another stock we’ve been monitoring over the last week- TASR has also provided a modest opportunity over the past couple of sessions. The stock bounced off of support at 20.79 on Monday, and yesterday managed to push its way to a high of 24.44, a notable 17.5% increase.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: ZAZA Update & More

ZaZa Energy Corp. ZAZA

We tagged ZAZA last Thursday on the heels of an earnings beat, and at the time, we mentioned that we’d put the stock on watch for a classic dip-and-rip scenario.

While it took more than a full session for it to settle back and find support, it did so on Friday, bouncing off of the 2.87-mark. Yesterday ZAZA continued to trend off of that bottom and reached a subsequent high of 3.60. For us, that marks a three-day turnaround on ZAZA with possible gains of up to 25%

In order for us to remain interested in ZAZA, we’ll need to see support hold at or above the 50DMA of 3.24.

Geron Corp. GERN

We also want to make mention of GERN, which we put on watch Friday after the company announced it had licensed its cancer treatment to a unit of Johnson & Johnson in a contract that could reportedly be worth up to $935 million.

After seeing a low of 2.72 from GERN initially on Friday, the stock began to rebound up to yesterday’s high of 3.10. (+14%) and appears to be gapping up slightly in the premarket today.

Folks might be interested in tuning in to the live webcast of GERN presenting at the Stifel 2014 Healthcare Conference in New York,  NY today at 1:50 p.m. EST. Webcast link can be found at GERN’s Website, HERE >>>
