Blue Horseshoe Stocks: RIOT, EGBN & More

Riot Blockchain, Inc. RIOT

We began tracking RIOT on November 2nd at a low of 6.33, mentioning it three times over the course of the next month. The stock saw a massive run ending last Monday hitting a high of 21.76, for a hefty move of 244%

It spent the rest of the week beginning to rebound off of the pullback to the $12-range which followed that huge spike, and is presently trading back in the $16-range. We’re going to want to continue to keep an eye on this blockchain related play, as almost anything even remotely tied to the white-hot sector has a chance to see further surges at any time if the price of BTC sees more new highs. As of this morning, one Bitcoin is worth just over $11,000USD.

Verizon, Inc. VZ

It has been a very solid run for VZ since we signaled a range of contracts to observe on the morning of November 17th, the VZ 01/19 $45-48 Calls.  We saw the stock trading at 44.62, and that was followed by sessions after session of new highs leading all the way through Friday, when it reached  51.55.

We wanted to provide yet another update on the total ranges of gains that were available in our options idea in the two weeks we’ve been tracking it now:

VZ 01/19 $45-48 Calls
$45 Calls – Range: 1.08 -6.40 – Max Gain: 493%
$46 Calls – Range: .59-5.48 – Max Gain: 829%
$47 Calls – Range: .39-4.56 – Max Gain: 1069%
$48 Calls – Range: .23-3.34 – Max Gain: 1352%

Eagle Bancorp, Inc. EGBN

We noticed an interesting set of events playing out with EGBN- the stock absolutely fell off a cliff last week, tumbling from nearly $70 on Wednesday, to the low $46-range on Friday. Apparently it was the result of a hyped up short seller report by Aurelius Value, an anonymous online firm that supports short-sellers. The company published a statement of its own calling the report “a deceptive and materially misleading piece“.

We tend to give credence to the actual company’s public statement rather than a group of shorts hiding behind a curtain somewhere. That’s why we’re going to place the EGBN 12/15 $50-60 Calls on watch in the days and weeks ahead, for what should be a forthcoming recovery in EGBN.

Options Review

Once again going back to the options ideas that we submitted in our premarket report on Friday morning we’ve got some updates on the figures for the VZ 01/19 $45-48 Calls. We gave several reasons why it appeared as if the gains we saw on Friday were just the beginning. We told our readers to loojk out for increases to the ranges we had observed to that point, and it was yet another spot-on call for us.

Each of the four sets of contracts in our highlighted range turned up with new highs, so here we’ve got the updated ranges and  potential two-day gains for anyone who was following along with our idea.

VZ 01/19 $45-48 Calls
$45 Calls – Range: 1.08 -2.01 – Max Gain: 86%
$46 Calls – Range: .59-1.35 – Max Gain: 129%
$47 Calls – Range: .39-.83 – Max Gain: 113%
$48 Calls – Range: .23-.50 – Max Gain: 117%

It’s a good thing that we did select a group of ideas that don;t expire for awhile, because it opens us up for the gains at even further success with these options. Indications suggest that the party may not be over. We may yet see further extensions of these ranges, so we’ll be sure to keep a sharp lookout.

Xunlei Ltd. XNET

Earlier this month, we tagged XNET for observation, and the stock has had one heck of a bullish month. We actually observed a low of  8.14 shortly following our initial alert, and this week has brought some really impressive new highs.

XNET made its way all the way to 19.57, in what has been a nearly continual uptrend all month long. It represents an increase of 140% That’s an awesome move for a $8+ stock to make over a matter of just a couple of weeks, and we’re definitely interested to see where it goes from here.

Fresh Options Ideas

While we’re on roll with options calls, we might as well let it ride by selecting a couple of other ideas that are worth monitoring.

Tiffany & Co. TIF – Tiffany’s chart is showing a decent bottom setup, while some insider buying was reported this week near 4-month lows. We’re going to highlight the TIF 10/20 $92-93 Calls and keep them on our radars in the days and weeks ahead.

Blackberry Ltd. BBRY – For a more short-term idea, we’re going to signal the BBRY Weekly $9.50 & $10 Calls on the heels of Blackberry’s premarket earning beat. Prior to today, the stock has hovering around a solid level of support at roughly $9 for quite some time, but today’s release could definitely have a positive effect on the chart. The company posted a beat on profits and revenue, while software sales set company records.
