Blue Horseshoe Stocks: AEZS Recap & More

Aeterna Zentaris, Inc. AEZS

It had been quite some time since the last time we mentioned AEZS in one of our reports, but were prompted to do so yesterday, after noticing some unusual premarket activity on our routine morning scan.

It’s certainly a good thing that we did, because the stock became our number one play of the day with an outstanding performance. It also happened to be the NASDAQ’s top gainer of the day. From an early low of 1.48 the stock shot up to a high of 2.80 shortly after 1:30, marking a single-session rip of 89%

The big move came on volume exceeding the monthly average by roughly 40 times, and the stock managed to hold well over half of its gains into the close, so we’ll be sure to leave AEZS on our radar as we head into the end of the week.

Marijuana Company of America, Inc. MCOA

Another point of focus for us yesterday was MCOA, which we signaled the previous morning, and subsequently witnessed a 38% (.02685-.037) upswing. We were mentioning that, along with the fact that an interesting PR had hit newswires which we felt could set the table for further gains, and we were correct in our assumption.

Perhaps also riding the wave of invigoration that has flowed back into the cannabis space as a whole over the past few sessions, MCOA continued its ascent, trading in a range from .0361-.0467 on the day. That was good for an intraday move of 29% and extended our two-session observed range on the stock to a respectable 74%

Sears Holdings Corp. SHLD – Options Idea

We’ve had some good fortune in the past with SHLD, and more specifically, its options chain. This morning, we’re spotting another possible opportunity on that front. The company will now be selling Kenmore appliances via Amazon.com, and as a result, the stock is gapping up over ten percent in premarket trading this morning.

To take advantage of the commotion, we’ll have our eye on the SHLD Weekly $9-10 Calls.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: MYO, HOS Reviews & More

Myomo, Inc. MYO

In terms of intraday gainers, MYO stole the show on Friday after appearing in our premarket report. Considering the fact that it was a ten dollar stock to begin with, the single-session rip we got from this play was fantastic.

From a low of 10.10 in the morning, MYO cruised its way to a high of 18.20 on over three times the monthly average volume. That worked out to an 80% move, and the stock closed with strength.

We’re going to be looking to MYO again as we kick off a new trading week today, as the stock has already bested Friday’s highs in premarket trading this morning. There may be a dip-and-rip formation, or a straight continuation of momentum, but either way we’ll want to see higher highs and higher lows established in order to confirm MYO as a multi-day runner and remain interested.

Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc. HOS

Coming in as an honorable mention, also from Friday’s report, was HOS. The stock traded up from 2.26 and ran as high as 2.93. That logs as a intraday rise of 30%, and it traded six times its 30-day average volume.

Like the above-mentioned play, HOS had a pretty solid close, and is showing signs of potentially sustaining the trend it established leading into the end of last week.

Smart & Final Stores, Inc. SFS

Many grocery stocks took a hit at the end of last week amid the huge Amazon-Whole Foods deal, and there could definitely be rebound opportunities forthcoming as a result.

One such stock that caught our eye is SFS, which was hammered down to new 52-week lows on Friday. Purely from a technical standpoint we’d be interested in this for potential bottom plays in the stock and the options chain as well. We’ll signal the SFS 08/18 $10 Calls for observation over an extended term.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Fresh News Plays & More

FreeSeas, Inc. FREE

We mentioned FREE in yesterday’s morning report as a bottom-play that was gaining momentum. The stock had begun to show signs of life after recently establishing a new 52-week low, and our focus paid off almost instantly.

We witnessed a slight dip to a low of .1113 shortly before 10AM, after which time FREE proceeded to surge its way to a daily high of .179. It registered as a 61% intraday swing before the stock tapered back to close at .091.

We’ll continue to observe the activity on the FREE chart as the week progresses, as there is a fair chance that we will continue to see sizable swings in PPS.

Axion Power International, Inc. AXPW

Speaking of major runners, the call we made on AXPW on Monday continued to extend its gains early in yesterday’s session. We caught this gem at a low of .0421, and watched as it went on to touch .36 before it began its pullback.

The move extended the total range we witnessed over just a two-session span to a whopping 755%

For us to remain interested in AXPW for further opportunities, we’ll need to see it maintain support at or above yesterday’s swing low of .14. Key resistance is sitting between .18-19.

Fresh News Plays

Synergy Pharmaceutical, Inc. SGYP
came with some positive news this morning, and is gapping up heavily in the premarket. We’ll look for a potential dip-and-rip scenario to occur following the opening bell.

_______

Blue Shere Corp. BLSP announced a tentative share buyback program this morning that would allow for the company to acquire up to $500K-worth of its common stock from the open market and/or via privately arranged transactions. Couple that with a chart that has the look of a classic bottom-play, and we’re very interested to include BLSP on our watchlist this midweek.
