Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Options Trading Ideas

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. ISRG

When we first tagged ISRG back on May 6th, the stock was just making its way down to its 3-year low, which came a couple of sessions later at 346.46. From that point, we saw a powerful uptrend that carried the stock back up to 426.43 (Jun 27th). It allowed us to play the options chain quite effectively over the course of several weeks.

Following that major run, we’ve seen some consolidation, coming back to the $380-level just recently, and currently, the stock is pressing new highs in premarket trading, to the tune of $444.

We did mention a long-term interest in the Aug.-Oct. $420-440 Calls back in June, and that insight is now paying off bigtime.

Petroleo Brasiliero S.A. PBR -Options

When we looked in on PBR on Monday, we were patting ourselves on the back for some excellent picks of last week’s $16.50 and $17 Weekly Calls, mentioning that we’d stick with the same ideas to begin this week.

It has turned out to be another great call on our part; just look at the action in those weekly calls during yesterday’s session:

The 16.50’s ran from .25 to 1.07, a possible intraweek gain of up to 328% while the $17 Calls surged from .13 up to .75, a 477% move. This was just one of many, many times that we’ve used the PBR options chain to our extreme advantage this year.

New Options-Trading Ideas

As our regulars have undoubtedly noticed, a good portion of our focus these days goes to options trading. We’ve become quite adept at spotting trends and using them to our benefit, and we’ve got a couple of new potential plays to add to the mix this morning.

Alcoa, Inc. AA

Alcoa has been building one beast of a chart over the past few months, and there looks to be no end in sight. We may be able to use this strong uptrend to leverage ourselves some nice gains out of AA Options. Specifically, the 08/16 $17 Calls, which closed at .44 yesterday after having traded in a range from .25-.48 on the day.

Yum! Brands, Inc. YUM

YUM got beat up recently, falling off a cliff at the $83-area, and yesterday was the first session since that the stock has found some support, down around $74. Our options idea here is to potentially utilize the rebound for some quick-strike gains. We’ll be monitoring the 08/08 $75 Calls, which closed at .82 yesterday.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: PBR & GEIG Updates, Extended Watchlist

Petroleo Brasiliero S.A. (Petrobras) PBR – Options

To start off a new trading week, we’re going to follow up on Friday’s mention of PBR Calls, which ended up with a fantastic performance by all accounts. If you recall, in Friday Morning’s Report, we indicated that we were “interested in the potential of the $16.50 and $17.00 Weekly Calls” for intraday flip opportunities.

As you can see on the Level 2 Snapshot below, the $16.50 Calls traded in a range from .25-.63, an intraday move 152% The $17 Calls did considerably better, screaming up from a low of .04 and running as high as .23; good for enormous gains of up to 475%

To begin the week, we’ll remain interested in the $16.50 and $17 Weekly Calls, provided PBR can hold support at Friday’s swing low of 16.66

GEI Global Energy Corp. GEIG

In our most recent GEIG alert (Wednesday), we stated that we needed to “keep a sharp eye out for a bottom… as it gets itself in gear for the next leg-up.”

The stock was searching for a base of support from which to launch its next upswing, and found it at .007 shortly prior to the close on Thursday. Friday’s session would prove most advantageous, as the stock sailed back upward to as high as .02, marking a 185% spike off of that bottom.

That was the second golden opportunity presented to us by GEIG in as many weeks; remember, we called it the week before last as well, and were rewarded with a single-session move of over 700% with traders easily being able to play the stock for gains in the 400% range. The high on that run was .08, so its quite possible to see GEIG make further strides from current levels.

Side Note:

We’re still monitoring FB Calls as we pointed out at the beginning of last week. We’ll be looking to capitalize on the volatility that comes with rising anticipation of earnings, due for release on Wednesday. It won’t be the first time we’ve used this tactic, and it isn’t likely to be the last.

In the midst of earnings season, we’re focused on using the trends to our advantage in making some potentially big options trades, not just with FB, but many others as well.

Extended Watchlist:
PLUG, NQ, EXTR, CLWT, CTIC, ATRX, NLST, KNDI

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: PSID, KNDI, PBR & Extended Watchlist

PositiveID Corp. PSID

The first thing we’d like to do this morning is go over how well PSID performed yesterday following our pre-market alert. Our timing proved to be spot-on in calling the bottom on this play, and after putting it on high alert in our report, we were rewarded with a couple of chances to gain over the course of the session.

The stock ran hard out of the starting gate, with trading opening up at .043 and rapidly reaching the day’s high at .064, a spike of 48% That was followed by a pullback to .049 where we got another upswing, this time to .058, a modest yet respectable intraday move of 18%

Those two significant swings combined for cumulative total gains of 66% on the day, and the stock managed to close at .057, holding on to much of the day’s forward progress. This all occurred on roughly 6x PSID’s 3-month average volume.

Congrats to anyone who was able to make PSID work for them, and be sure to stay tuned, as a performance like that could lead to a strong finish to the week.

Kandi Technologies Group, Inc. KNDI

This is a stock that we’ve been tracking for over a year now, as a quick look at KNDI’s archive on our blog will reveal. Our most recent tag of this stock came via Monday morning’s extended watchlist, and over the course of the week, it has yielded quite a nice move; We saw a low of 15.76 on Monday, and by yesterday’s session we observed a high of 20.96, an intraweek gain of 33%

Those who may have picked up on this play following our next most recent alert of this play (June 12th ) could have caught a low of 12.30. Yesterday’s high marked a 70% move up from that level.

Petroleo Brasiliero S.A. (Petrobras) PBR

Our regulars are aware of how tenaciously we’ve covered PBR this year. On March 21st we added it to our watchlist as it was coming off of 10-year lows. Our observed low that day was 11.25, and the stock never looked back. We’ve traded primarily in the options chain of PBR and have made percentage gains in the thousands over the course of several months, but even the overall action on the stock itself has been impressive.

Yesterday’s session set a new high of 16.43 and in premarket trading today that has been pushed to more than $17, from the low we saw this spring, that’s an overall move of over 50% on the chart.

However, the swing action on this play over the past few months has been terrific, as we’ve pointed out on the following chart. As you can see, after our initial alert, there have been no less than three major swings. The current positioning breaks PBR out of the channel we illustrate below, signaling potential for further moves to the upside.

As far as the options chain is concerned, we’ll be looking for a pullback from profit taking on this major spike, and after that, we’re interested in the potential of the $16.50 and $17.00 Weekly Calls for an intraday flip opportunity today.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: The Week in Review

Looking Back on a Stellar Week

We couldn’t have asked for a better week of winning picks, especially coming off of a holiday weekend, so to wrap things up we’re going to go over all of our successful picks, and what kinds of moves they made.

GEI Global Energy Corp. GEIG

Of course the big winner for this week was GEIG, and in fact was one of our most successful picks in quite some time. We initiated coverage of GEIG on Wednesday, the stock opened up and saw a low of .0098 very briefly before exploding to a high of .08, a single-session move of 716% While it’s unlikely that traders could have picked up any of those sub-penny shares, the real action began around .015, still leaving the opportunity at a high number, with gains of up to 433% being very possible. The stock traded record volume.

Camtek, Ltd. CAMT

CAMT came off of Monday’s extended watchlist to perform exceptionally well for us, running from a low of 3.42 to 5.14, a solid 50% gainer on more than 40x its 3-month average volume.

GW Pharmaceuticals, Inc. GWPH

On Tuesday, we were talking about GWPH, stating: “Once we see a solid level of support established and GWPH begins to rebound, then we’ll be able to adjust our options-trading strategies accordingly.” Sure enough, the stock did indeed find solid support at 85.32. We would subsequently see an uptrend carry GWPH as high as 93.97. As a result, the $85 Weekly Calls traded in an impressive range from 4.30 to 9.60, a total possible gain of 123% while the $90 Calls made an even more impressive move. They would run from 1.55-5.69, giving traders a chance at profits up to 267% We’ll continue to watch those weekly contracts today for a possible intraday flip opportunity.

American Apparel, Inc. APP

This spring, we started reminding people that as the retail season approaches, APP is a stock that we traditionally play for nice gains every year. 2014 has proven no different. We saw a low of .51
out of APP on June 24th, and the stock has made more than a 100% move up, touching 1.05 during yesterday’s session. The retail season has yet to even kick into gear, and already we’ve been able to reap some excellent rewards from this retail stock; it will certainly remain on our watchlist as the summer begins to wind down.

Inception Mining, Inc. IMII

We first added IMII to our lists yesterday as a long term-mining play. We wanted the stock to hold support off of the 200DMA, and break resistance at the 50DMA, and that’s just what we got. The stock has made higher lows and higher highs over the past couple of sessions, so it appears we’re off to a great start with this one. On the chart, the RSI cracked above the 50-line, and the MACD is still heading for a bullish cross, so we’re still very interested to see what this play could do in the days and weeks ahead.

Extended Watchlist:
HALO, DGLY, JOEZ, EVRY, PBR

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: AUMN, MEET & Options Calls

MeetMe, Inc. MEET
&
Golden Minerals Corp. AUMN

Both MEET and AUMN were winners off of yesterday’s extended watchlist, with each stock making nice intraday runs that traders could have used to their advantage.

AUMN’s move was the larger of the two, with the stock trading up from its early morning low of .72, and reaching as high as 1.00 before lunchtime. That made gains of up to 39% possible for anyone riding the wave.

We may want to keep AUMN on our radars for a longer period of time, as the PR which catalyzed yesterday’s move up contains some intriguing information. We’re going to be interested to follow along with that storyline. We suggest you read the full text of the announcement by clicking the link in the except below.

GOLDEN, Colo., Jun 18, 2014 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) — Golden Minerals Company (“Golden Minerals” or the “Company”) (NYSE MKT: AUMN) (TSX: AUM) today announced plans for a July 2014 restart of mining at its Velardena Properties located in Durango state, Mexico. Once mining and processing are ramped up to approximately 285 tonnes per day (tpd) of sulfide ore in mid-2015, the Company expects output of approximately 1.0 to 1.2 million silver equivalent ounces per annum (including silver and gold but excluding lead and zinc), with cash costs between $12 and $15 per silver ounce net of by-product credits. >> FULL PR

_____

MEET’s intraday run was a bit more modest coming in at 19% as the stock ran from 2.06-2.45, but the opportunity was still present. The spike came on high volume, and the stock held the majority of those gains into the close, so we may want to keep tracking this one as well.

Tracking Our Options Calls

We’ve had so much success with options this week, that the chances are too many to list! As of yesterday premarket, our total possible percentage gains had already pushed well into the thousands, and that figure only increased throughout the session. Each of the three primary chains we’ve been playing this week executed classic dip-and-rip scenarios, and virtually every set of Calls we’ve been watching made sizable moves.

Petroleo Brasiliero S.A. (Petrobras) PBR

3D Systems, Inc. DDD

GW Pharmaceuticals, Inc. GWPH

From the One Week charts below, you can see just how significant the swings have been in the Calls on each of these plays.

We want to continue monitoring these charts regardless of which way they appear to trend, as every pullback we’ve seen thus far has provided us with chance to play the dip-and-rip. With the Fed’s stance on tapering and not raising interest rates anytime soon, it could continue to feed what has been an absolutely historic bull market.
