Friday’s Options Ideas

Our closing thoughts in Friday’s premarket report were in regard to the activity we were seeing in the VXX. It was trending several percentage points above its 50DMA and we went ahead and signals our interest in tracking the VXX $20-22 Calls, with an accompanying idea of SPY $206-203 Puts.

For the second Friday in a row, the options chains of this ETN and ETF provided us with the chance to pull down huge single-session gains:

$20 Calls – Trading Range: 1.09-3.74  – Max Gain: 243%
$20.50 Calls – Trading Range: .75-3.20  – Max Gain: 327%
$21 Calls – Trading Range: .44-2.69 – Max Gain: 511%
$21.50 Calls – Trading Range: .11-.2.29 – Max Gain: 1981%
$22 Calls – Trading Range: .11-1.84 – Max Gain: 1572%

The SPY Puts also worked out, although the potential gains weren’t quite as dramatic. For example the $203.50 Puts ran from .54-1.99; a comparatively modest, yet still excellent intraday move of 268%

We did a quick video highlighting these and a few other great calls made last week:

Another Big Chatroom Play

As our regular readers are aware, we’ve been calling more attention to the daily live traders chats that we conduct on Skype (Send contact request to ‘stocksumo‘ to join in!) so folks have a chance to get in on some of the hot plays that get presented to the room. For the third time in the past few weeks, chatroom member ‘DJ’ produced a gem. The following snapshot from Thursday afternoon’s chat contains his signal to the group:

What happened subsequent to that on Friday morning was nothing short of jaw-dropping. RGDXQ simply exploded as it came out of the gate at a low of .0024 and soared an impressive 900% to the high-of-day at .024 early on in the session. That was followed by a few significant swings later on as well. Excellent work by DJ in giving us the early-warning on that one!

Our current trader’s chats are free and open to anyone for a limited time only, so get on Skype and send a contact request to ‘stocksumo‘ to join in!

HydroPhi Technologies Group, Inc. HPTG

We had HPTG tagged in Friday’s morning report as well, and despite a pullback early on in the session the stock did make a nice rebound. After dipping to .0032 it regained ground back to .0048, which amounts to a 50% swing. The close came just a couple of ticks below at .0046, so we’ll definitely leave this stock on our radars for the time being.

The PR that helped fuel Friday’s activity (link below) highlighted a pair of significant acquisitions made by HPTG, so we’ll also be interested to track that aspect of the story.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: New Options Ideas, Rebound Play & More

JC Penney Company Inc. JCP – Options Review

If you recall yesterday’s premarket report, we were targeting some JCP options calls to play off of the anticipation of this morning’s earnings release. Our idea returned some nice opportunities for intraday gains. We were specifically looking to the JCP Weekly $8.50 Calls for these chances, and those contracts traded in a range from .39-61 during yesterday’s session. That made it possible for traders to bank up to 56% in intraday profits.

As for JCP’s Q3 earning release, expectations were exceeded and yet the stock is still down considerably in the premarket. Many people are citing an overall struggle for the retail sector as a whole this quarter as the reasoning behind some of the less-than-spectacular performances we’re seeing.

Fresh Options Ideas:

To finish out the week, we’ll formulate a couple of quick-strike options ideas to correspond with the general sentiment of the markets this morning. Stocks have been continuing to struggle, presumably due at least in part, to the uncertainty of a potential rate-hike next month. As a result the UVXY (can be thought of as a ‘market fear’ indicator)  just made its biggest move of the past few weeks and looks like it wants to head higher this morning.

To play into this potential trend we’re going to flag both the UVXY Weekly $33-35 Calls, and the SPY Weekly 205-203.50 Puts for potential daytrading action.

Of course, if the markets pull a head-fake and appear as if they to want to rally, we can always jump to the other side of the fence with each idea. In that case we’d be observing the same strike prices, only with UVXY Puts and SPY Calls.

Bonus Idea: FIT Weekly $30 and 29 Puts

MannKind Corp. MNKD

We’re also going to put MNKD on watch in sessions to come; the stock established a new 52-week low on Wednesday, and followed that up with a significant rebound yesterday.

We’ll be on the lookout for the recording of higher highs and higher lows and a testing of key resistance at the 50DMA of 3.26, which from current levels, would spell a solid gain of 25% in and of itself.

New Options Ideas

It is a relatively seldom occurrence that we will signal Puts when speculating over potential options plays, but we have our eyes on a couple of stocks that are exhibiting the proper conditions to do so this morning. What figures to be another slow day for stocks with regard to overall market conditions, could also help us along to some intraday opportunities on the bearish side of things.

Macy’s, Inc. M –  Despite exceeding expectations for profits, Macy’s returned disappointing sales figures for Q3 this morning and as a result, is gapping down considerably in the premarket. Over the past few sessions, the stock has behaved in a similar manner, with an early gap-down leading to further losses, so in the event that the pattern repeats itself we’re going to be tracking the M Weekly $47-43 Puts for swing-trade possibilities.

Horizon Pharma plc HZNP – HZNP is taking a major hit in the premarket on some negative press that began circulating late last night. It represents a considerable hit to the company, and with such news being thus far untraded-upon, we’re going to be taking a look at HZNP Weekly $20-17 Puts.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Yesterday’s Movers & More

Yesterday’s Movers

Among the stocks we were mentioning in yesterday morning’s premarket report, there were quite a few that ended up turning in positive performances on the day.

Terra Tech Corp. TRTC – TRTC stood out among cannabis stocks with a healthy intraday increase of 21% as it ran from .108-.131. The stock closed with strength, just a tick below the HOD at .13.

We will continue to monitor, not only TRTC, but the marijuana space as a whole, like we were saying yesterday. There is a resurgence of activity in the sector that we feel will only increase as voting season is upon us. The legalization of industrial hemp in North Carolina this week is also a factor in re-generating a ‘buzz’ around cannabis in all its forms.
__

Global Digital Solutions, Inc. GDSI – GDSI is a stock we’ve continuously tracked for months now, as a quick tag search of our archives reveals. Yesterday, after including it in our extended watchlist, the stock made a healthy 51% intraday pop from a low of .0045 on up to .0068.

As measured from our recent observed low of .0012 (09/24), yesterday’s high registered as an incredible 466% swing in just a little over a month’s time.

__

Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp. LBSR – Another inclusion from yesterday’s extended watchlist, LBSR put up a respectable intraday performance as well. The stock traded in a range from .0034-.0049, giving traders the chance at up to 44% profits.

Continued Recovery Watch

Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. APDN & MFC Industrial, Ltd. MIL

We wanted to take a minute to update folks on this pair of stocks that we’ve been tracking as recovery plays since Friday. While they didnt break out by any means yesterday, both managed to log higher highs and higher lows on the day, qualifying them for continued observation.

In fact, both APDN and MIL have managed to record three consecutive sessions of higher highs and higher lows since we entered them into the conversation. We’ll be interested in each case to see how far the trend will carry.

Added Note:
Speaking of bottom-bouncers, another stock with which we have been familiar in the past, is Liquid Holdings Group, Inc. LIQD. It has brought us some solid chances for gains previously, and we’ll want to closely observe as it appears to be quite oversold at the moment, and coming off of a bottom. Conditions appear to be ripening for a possible protracted rebound.

AAPL Options, FREE PHOT & Extended Watchlist

Apple, Inc. AAPL – Options

We began the week by mentioning our interest in AAPL Calls, having already experienced substantial gains to that point over the past several sessions. In anticipation of today’s iPad Event, the stock went on a tear, ending the day up more than ten dollars and 2.45% The 11/01 $505 & $510 Calls that we’ve been tracking were pushed deep into the money, yielding enormous gains. The 505’s surged another 100% from our original alert point at $12-range to 24.35, The 510’s, which started off as low as $10, and hit a high of 24.22, ending up at 22.05. A gain of over 140%

AAPL is gapping up once again, trading up roughly 1% pre-market. We expect these Calls to be pushed ever-deeper into the money.

FreeSeas, Inc. FREE

On September 10th we were talking about FREE, and the fact that it had resistance sitting on the chart at .33 and .38. At that time, we observed it trading as low as .2213. In just under a month, we would see it rocket 320% to .9287.

Following that huge run, the stock has been under consolidation, and we are currently monitoring for a bottom. Ideally, we’d like to see that come above the .33-mark. A signal that the stock is ready for a rebound would be the surpassing of the 50DMA at .39.

Growlife, Inc. PHOT

Most of you know that we’ve been tracking PHOT, along with a lot of other marijuana-related stocks for an awfully long time. On August 30th, we reminded our readers to begin paying close attention to the industry following the Fed’s announcement that it would not be interfering with states’ right to legalize marijuana. At that time, it was as low as .0318. We mentioned PHOT again on September 16th, at a price of .042 as it was breaking a double-top.

Yesterday, the stock hit a new high of .072 into the close, marking a gain of 71% since mid-September.
