Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Options Success, MNKD & More

Eleven BioTherapeutics, Inc. EBIO

Out of four focal points for yesterday morning’s premarket report, three of them worked out very nicely. From the stock side of things, we had EBIO, which we designated as a potential momentum play after noticing it picking up steam in prior sessions.

Our hunch was good, as the stock ran from a low of 2.31 to 2.955 (+28%) on roughly nine times its monthly average volume. It was a relatively modest gain, yet we did see a temporary breach of the 50DMA as well as a strong close at 2.78. It was a solid enough performance to warrant further observation.

______

MannKind Corp. MNKD – We drew attention to MNKD on Wednesday morning and just want to provide an update on its excellent progress so far. In the past two sessions since then it has traded up from a low of .44 to .68 (+55%) in two bullish sessions. We’ll be looking for a possible continuation of that trend.

Options Winners

The other two winners from yesterday were both successful options ideas that we formulated on the heels of strong earnings reports, and the gain opportunities there were quite a bit larger.

We’ve come to routinely expect huge multi-bag intraday runs when we hit on a good post-earnings idea, and that’s just what we got from every single contract we signaled.

Macy’s, Inc. M – Weekly $38-41 Calls

$38 Calls – Range: 1.52-3.85 – Max Gain: 153%
$38.50 Calls – Range: 1.27-2.90 – Max Gain: 128%

Fresh Idea – Nvidia Corp. NVDA – Nvidia beat on earnings in a post-market release yesterday, and to correspond with the activity we’re observing here in the premarket, we want to highlight the NVDA Weekly $77-80 Calls* for potential daytrades.

*Our regular readers are well aware of the warnings we post every time we issue an alert, but for everyone just joining us, please be aware that trading options contracts with a weekly expiration on a Friday is a highly risky proposition, and should only be undertaken by expert traders!

Starbucks Corp. SBUX – Options Update

Our options idea from Friday morning, the SBUX 11/11 $53.50-55 Calls
continued to be good plays as SBUX stock posted some solid intraday activity even as many others faltered in the uncertainty of the elections. It allotted for us to see further opportunities over the multi-bag gains we’d already been afforded to that point.

$53.50 Calls – Range: 1.05-1.47 – Max Gain: 169%
$54 Calls – Range: .76-1.07 – Max Gain: 300%
$54.50 Calls – Range: .45-.69 – Max Gain: 458%
$55 Calls – Range: .23-.43 – Max Gain: 344%

The markets as a whole are showing trepidation over the events of the past 24 hours, but once again, we must remain open to the possibility of seeing further moves out of these contracts which have treated us well so far.

CANNABIS SECTOR UPDATE:

As expected California passed its recreational marijuana initiative on election day, with Nevada and Massachusetts following suit.  Medical pot passed in North Dakota, Arkansas, and Florida. As we stated before, the whole landscape of the cannabis industry is set to change now, as the country as a whole takes several leaps toward the end of nationwide prohibition.

It’s just the outcome we expected, and the ramifications will begin to come into clearer focus in the weeks and months ahead as we observe how each state will handle roll-out of the new laws.

Our sector-wide alert will continue indefinitely as the effects of the outcomes on the investment side of things materialize.

Potential Bottom Plays

MannKind Corp. MNKD – It’s been a long while since we’ve taken a look at MNKD, and we want to draw some attention to it this morning as a possible bottom play. It’s been in a general downtrend for the better part of four months, and looks like it could be in a good spot for a rebound from this juncture. We’ll reserve it a space on our radar moving forward.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. TEVA – The threat of a class-action lawsuit has produced a backslide in TEVA in recent sessions. It’s just the kind of consolidation on non-material developments that we’re always scanning for as course corrections can often occur following this type of activity, and sure enough, the stock appears to be rebounding in the premarket. To take advantage, we’re going to look to the TEVA Weekly $40.50-42.50 Calls.

JC Penney Company Inc. JCP – Options Review

If you recall yesterday’s premarket report, we were targeting some JCP options calls to play off of the anticipation of this morning’s earnings release. Our idea returned some nice opportunities for intraday gains. We were specifically looking to the JCP Weekly $8.50 Calls for these chances, and those contracts traded in a range from .39-61 during yesterday’s session. That made it possible for traders to bank up to 56% in intraday profits.

As for JCP’s Q3 earning release, expectations were exceeded and yet the stock is still down considerably in the premarket. Many people are citing an overall struggle for the retail sector as a whole this quarter as the reasoning behind some of the less-than-spectacular performances we’re seeing.

Fresh Options Ideas:

To finish out the week, we’ll formulate a couple of quick-strike options ideas to correspond with the general sentiment of the markets this morning. Stocks have been continuing to struggle, presumably due at least in part, to the uncertainty of a potential rate-hike next month. As a result the UVXY (can be thought of as a ‘market fear’ indicator)  just made its biggest move of the past few weeks and looks like it wants to head higher this morning.

To play into this potential trend we’re going to flag both the UVXY Weekly $33-35 Calls, and the SPY Weekly 205-203.50 Puts for potential daytrading action.

Of course, if the markets pull a head-fake and appear as if they to want to rally, we can always jump to the other side of the fence with each idea. In that case we’d be observing the same strike prices, only with UVXY Puts and SPY Calls.

Bonus Idea: FIT Weekly $30 and 29 Puts

MannKind Corp. MNKD

We’re also going to put MNKD on watch in sessions to come; the stock established a new 52-week low on Wednesday, and followed that up with a significant rebound yesterday.

We’ll be on the lookout for the recording of higher highs and higher lows and a testing of key resistance at the 50DMA of 3.26, which from current levels, would spell a solid gain of 25% in and of itself.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: LNKD Options Update & More

LinkedIn Corp. LNKD – Options

A week ago today, we formulated some options ideas for LNKD including a range of longer-term contracts for our watchlist, specifically August $220.00-230.00 Calls. This morning we wanted to give an update on the trading ranges of those contracts and the opportunities they have afforded us thus far.

08/21 $220 Calls – Range: 9.80-14.30 – Max Gain: 46%
08/21 $225 Calls – Range: 8.02-11.30 – Max Gain: 41%
08/21 $230 Calls – Range: 5.10-9.35 – Max Gain: 83%

We want to keep in mind that we essentially have all summer to continue monitoring these contracts. The swings we’ve seen up to this point could just be the tip of the iceberg, so we won’t let LNKD slip off of our radars. The stock has been on a steady rebound from recent lows since the end of May. We’ll be looking for it to continue to building the chart with higher highs and higher lows; key resistance is presently sitting at the 50DMA of 226.39.

Medican Enterprises, Inc. MDCN

We also need to remind our readers of a recent bottom-watch call we made in the form of MDCN. This cannabis-related play has appeared in our reports several times; most recently on May 26th. At the time we mentioned that the stock was searching for support after a months-long downtrend, and that we felt the possibility of a rebound was forthcoming.

While it took several sessions to occur, MDCN finally found its legs yesterday with an 85% swing from .0013-.0024. It closed with strength, maintaining more than 50% of its daily gains on heavy volume, so we’ll definitely continue to observe the action here for the possibility of a multi-day run.

TapImmune, Inc. TPIV

Another stock that we tagged earlier this spring has been making serious moves. Just to update, we tagged TPIV on April 16th and at the time the stock was trading below .20. Since then, it has increased more than three-fold, now pushing its way up into the mid-.80’s.

This stock could produce ample bounce-play opportunities when it finally does consolidate off of this latest run-up, so we’ll put it on closer watch into next week.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: LPCN Recap, LPDX & More

Lipocine, Inc. LPCN

LPCN served up an opportunity at some decent intraday gains after appearing on yesterday morning’s extended watchlist.

The stock played out a classic dip and rip scenario, falling to a morning low of 6.89 before surging back in the afternoon to a subsequent high of 8.42. That offered traders a chance at intraday gains of up to 22% on plenty of liquidity- the stock would trade 23.5X its 30-day average volume.

The productive session came on the heels of the company announcing favorable results from Phase-3 clinical testing of “LPCN 1021”, its oral treatment for low testosterone >>> VIEW PR

LipoScience, Inc. LPDX

LPDX is gapping up heavily in the premarket, and the interesting story behind it is one that we’re definitely going to want to give our close attention. Early this morning, the company announced that it was the subject of a buyout that would be executed at a share price of $5.25. Barely an hour later, another PR hit the LPDX newswire, concerning an investigation of the managerial board’s handling of the deal, and whether or not they have secured the best possible buyout price.

According to the investigative firm leading the case, “The $5.25 per share acquisition price is far less than where the stock has recently traded. In fact, on January 25, 2013, LipoScience stock opened for trading at $9.75 the day the Company sold 5.0 million shares of stock in its initial public stock offering.” >>> VIEW PR

The playing out of this scenario is going to be an interesting story moving forward, which is why we wanted to flag LPDX this morning, and fill everyone in on this morning’s happenings. The possibility that the investigation could lead to a potential restructuring of the buyout is enough to have us keep our ears to the tracks on this one for the foreseeable future.

Magnum Hunter Resources Corp. MHR

MHR is another morning gapper that we’re putting on our radars. This morning Magnum announced impressive throughput volumes on its “Eureka Hunter” gas gathering pipeline. According to the CEO, “increased capacity has resulted in a record day of approximately 316,500 MMBtu of natural gas”. >>> VIEW PR

Options Trading Idea: PBR Calls

We’re interested in the PBR October 31st $15.50 Calls  last traded at 1.88. If we can see PBR make its way back to recent $20+ highs within a month, it could put us in position to see returns of up to 150-200% on those contracts.
