Using the SPY to Our Advantage, 3 Fresh Ideas

SPY Puts Surge:

Once again yesterday, the markets losses are our gains. Our lone options trading idea for the day focused upon a dim view of the SPY, and with another precipitous decline for stocks, we hit the nail right on the head. This is among the reasons why our readers see SPY plays in our newsletters on a highly regular basis, as it tends to be easier to predict the actions of the markets as a whole than it is do so the same for just one. The SPY also sees a lot of intraday volatility which can often lead to opportunities on both sides of the fence in a single session.

In terms of yesterday morning, due to a bit of a drought of earnings reporters, our premarket report contained only one idea, which was the SPY 06/13 $385-383 Puts. Those targets offered up the chance at the following really nice intraday profit chances:

 SPY 06/13 $385-383 Puts
$385: 4.24-11.01 (+160%)
$384: 3.46-10.50 (+203%)
$383: 2.84-9.67 (+240%)

Fresh Options Ideas:
ORCL Weekly $70-72.50 Calls
COP Weekly $110-112 Calls
FERG Weekly $100-110 Calls

ProText Mobility, Inc. TXTM – Recap:

We also wanted to provide a quick recap on the run in TXTM yesterday. We last flagged this play for observation in an extended watchlist a few weeks back, subsequent to which the stock was trading for as little as .0016. Yesterday, on an immense amount of volume, the stock surged as high as .0049, which marks a 206% swing over our observed low.

Friday’s Options Perfection, Fresh Idea for the SPY

Friday’s Options Review:

The markets got absolutely crushed to close out the week on Friday, so it was fortunate that the majority of the plays that we offered up as intraday trading ideas were on the bearish side of the fence. However, the one set of calls that we rode with also bucked the trend and posted some huge gains, so we swept the board with a perfect performance on the day.

Our particular targets for the day were the BABA Weekly $110-113 Calls, the DOCU Weekly $68-65 Puts, the SPY 06/10 $400-398 Puts, and the SFIX Weekly $7-6.50 Puts. The potential profits produced by these plays did not disappoint. Those figures were as follows:

Fresh Options Idea:

As we mentioned at the outset of last week, we’re heading into a very thin and spotty time in terms of big name earnings reporters, which are typically our daily bread and butter for quick-strike options trading opportunities. In times like these, we usually rely upon playing daily SPY targets. Today we’re going to look at the SPY 06/13 $385-383 Puts.

Thursday’s Options Review:

We’re ready to wrap up another trading week today, and it was a heck of solid one for us on the options front. We were bearish on most of our highlighted ideas for the day, and the markets took a serious dive in the second half of the session, which facilitated some kind gains. However, our one bullish target bucked the overall trend and delivered some notable intraday moves as well, so all in all it was a pretty good outing.

SPY, FUTU Gainers, Fresh Options Plays

Yesterday’s Big Runners:

Yesterday morning, as is typical for our daily premarket reports, we included a selection of options ideas comprised of both quick-strike and extended-term ideas. There was a lot of good volatility in the markets yesterday, so the quick plays worked out beautifully, while the longer-term target will take some time to mature.

Our spur of the moment ideas were the SPY 06/06 $413-415 Calls and the FUTU Weekly $38.50-40 Calls. In both cases, we had multiple chances for beautiful multi-bag intraday gains. Despite the fact that we are going to see a tapering of earnings reporters in coming weeks, if we continue to see the type of volatility yesterday brought, we should have too hard of a time tracking down opportunities like these.

SPY 06/06 $413-415 Calls
$413:
 .49-1.44 (+194%)
$414: .30-.85 (+183%)

FUTU Weekly $38.50-40 Calls

Friday’s Big Winners, Fresh Ideas & More

Solid Options Runners:

To close things out for the short week on Friday, we had a pair of quick-strike options ideas in the LULU and OKTA chains, as well as a longer term target for ASAN in our premarket report. Despite a rather subdued session for the markets in general wherein we saw a gap-down in the morning, and not much progress toward a recovery throughout the day, we were still able to manage some very nice gain chances.

Our specific areas of interest for the day were the LULU Weekly $300-307.50 Calls, the OKTA Weekly $106-108 Calls, and the ASAN 06/17 $22.50 Puts. Both sets of calls produced multi-bag profit possibilities on the day, with ASAN not lagging far behind. We’ve also got a week and change before they expire, so we’ll continue to monitor those as well. As for Friday’s moves, here’s what these ideas put forth for the session:

LULU Weekly $300-307.50 Calls
$300:
 2.55-7.35 (+188%)
$302.50: 2.00-5.60 (+180%)
$305: 1.41-4.50 (+219%)
$307.50: .94-3.40 (+262%)
_____

OKTA Weekly $106-108 Calls
$106: 1.16-2.87 (+147%)
$107: .84-2.05 (+144%)
$108: .48-1.39 (+190%)
_____

ASAN 06/17 $22.50 Puts
$22.50: 1.82-2.90 (+59%)

Fresh Options Ideas:

We are heading into an extended dry spell with regard to the number of big name companies dropping their earnings reports, which is going to persist for the next several weeks. We’re used to traversing these periodic ‘earnings deserts’, and as always, we’ll still be working hard every day to find the best opportunities possible, which for us, generally includes a heavy reliance on the SPY- our favorite market analog.

SPY 06/06 $413-415 Calls
FUTU Weekly $38.50-40 Calls
QDEL 07/15 $85-95 Calls
