Using the SPY to Our Advantage, 3 Fresh Ideas

SPY Puts Surge:

Once again yesterday, the markets losses are our gains. Our lone options trading idea for the day focused upon a dim view of the SPY, and with another precipitous decline for stocks, we hit the nail right on the head. This is among the reasons why our readers see SPY plays in our newsletters on a highly regular basis, as it tends to be easier to predict the actions of the markets as a whole than it is do so the same for just one. The SPY also sees a lot of intraday volatility which can often lead to opportunities on both sides of the fence in a single session.

In terms of yesterday morning, due to a bit of a drought of earnings reporters, our premarket report contained only one idea, which was the SPY 06/13 $385-383 Puts. Those targets offered up the chance at the following really nice intraday profit chances:

We also wanted to provide a quick recap on the run in TXTM yesterday. We last flagged this play for observation in an extended watchlist a few weeks back, subsequent to which the stock was trading for as little as .0016. Yesterday, on an immense amount of volume, the stock surged as high as .0049, which marks a 206% swing over our observed low.

We absolutely crushed it with our earnings plays once again yesterday, signaling a trio of related options ideas in our premarket report. Despite a mixed, yet primarily down day for the markets, the volatility provided by these companies’ earnings drops powered some significant positive intraday movement.

We were targeting the LULU Weekly $360-370 Calls, the MU Weekly $82-85 Calls, and the BNTX Weekly $182.50-187.50 Calls, and of course they all produced solid opportunities for us. Additionally, we have an update on the DOOO 04/14 $70-75 Calls which we signaled for observation on Friday morning, and have since tacked on more new highs.

Interesting Chart Plays:

Also catching our eye this morning are a couple of interesting chart setups in FibroGen, Inc. FGEN and Fastly, Inc. FSLY, and in both cases we will be watching the stocks as well as some potential options ideas.

In the case of FGEN, there are a couple of large gaps to fill to the upside, and over the past couple of sessions the stock has given indication that it may be about to do so. We’re going to be tagging the FGEN 07/16 $27.50-30 Calls for observation.

On FSLY, the gap-fill has occurred this week and the PPS is now on the verge of breaking past the 50DMA with its considerable momentum. We’ll radar the FSLY 06/25 $61-63 Calls.

We went to the short side on EA and long on CLVS, and in both cases we were able to reap instant rewards.

From a low of .332 Monday morning, to yesterday’s new high of .74 it marks a two-day upswing and total possible gains of 123%
