Tuesday Recap, 4 Fresh Options Ideas

Tuesday’s Runners:

Big Options Moves & More

PetMed Express, Inc. PETS – Update

Our fresh options idea of the day yesterday morning involved the PETS chain in the wake of the company’s huge Q2 earnings beat, which precipitated the stock’s largest single session gain in 17 years.

We zeroed in on the PETS 11/15 $20-25 Calls, and the potential intraday profits on the table were nothing to sneeze at, with all three sets making multi-bag rips.

$20 Calls – Range: 2.60-6.80 – Max Gain: 162%
$22.50 Calls – Range: 1.00-4.40 – Max Gain: 340%
$25 Calls – Range: .40-2.40 – Max Gain: 500%

Fresh Options Ideas –
We’ve also got a couple of new ideas to track off of this morning’s earnings calendar:

The Procter & Gamble Co. PG Weekly $123-125 Calls
Harley-Davidson, Inc. HOG Weekly $38.50-40 Calls

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: ENPH Review & More

Enphase Energy, Inc. ENPH – Review

We have been exceedingly pleased with the recent performance of ENPH, which, despite recent volatility in the markets at large, has been on an incredible bull run for several weeks. We alerted our readers to ENPH’s momentum on the last day of February, and in the two trading weeks since then, the stock has barely skipped a beat.

From a low of 3.07 on the morning of our initial alert, we’ve seen ENPH steadily rise, leading to a new high of 4.74 on Friday. That works out to a very solid run of 54% In the last week especially , the stock showed little sign of slowing down, so we’ll be interested to see where its fortunes take it this week.

Walmart, Inc. WMT – Options Review

We’ve been tracking a wide range of extended-term WMT Calls since the middle of last week, the WMT 04/20 $95-97.50 Calls. We wanted to provide a quick update on the moves we had witnessed by the end of the week.

At the bottom of the range, the $95 Calls ran from .25 to .51 for a gain of 104%  At the top, we saw the $97.50’s rise from .11 to .24, a 118% rip. The four sets of contracts in between those two also produced opportunities at commensurate profits. With plenty of time prior to expiration, we’ll leave these contracts on our radar and continue to monitor them as we kick off a fresh trading week.

FRESH OPTIONS IDEAS

Seagate Technologies plc. STX -We’re interested in the situation with STX this morning after the company impressed with its post-market earnings report yesterday. Expectations were exceeded for revenues and earnings-per-share, while a bullish outlook for the remainder of 2017 was provided.

Our first inclination here would be to place the STX Weekly $41-43.50 Calls on watch for the rest of the week in an attempt to ride the wave of enthusiasm for the company’s impressive quarterly figures.

_____

General Electric Co. GE – GE showed signed of a possible reversal yesterday as it began to rebound off of the precipitous decline effected by Friday’s underwhelming earnings report.

The stock perhaps over-corrected with its PPS loss of more than a dollar between Friday and Monday, and we’re interested in potentially hitching a ride with some extended-term options calls.  Provided the stock doesn’t fall further than the $30-mark on any pullbacks, we’ll be tracking the GE 03/03 $30-31.50 Calls.

Heron Therapeutics, Inc. HRTX – Form-4 Alert

We always glance at the chart of a play for which there are insider buys of a significant nature, and that’s just how we’d classify the Form-4 that came in on HRTX late last week.

Director Kevin Tang executed an order for nearly $30M worth of HRTX stock at the stock’s 52-week low of 12.20, per the filing (>>View Here).

We’ll be very interested to see if that indeed was the bottom on this play, which has a relatively recent track record of making volatile swings to more than $20.

Added Note: Puration, Inc. PURA

We also want to provide a quick update as to the progress of PURA, which we initially signaled on Thursday the 12th, subsequently witnessing a low of .03.

Yesterday, despite tapering back slightly into the close, the stock did achieve new highs for us, reaching as much as .094 during the session, a new 52-week high. It extended our observed range on the play in just a few week’s time to an impressive 213%

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Options Recaps, Recovery Play & More

Options Recaps

Our closing thoughts in Friday’s premarket report included some options ideas pertaining to our bullish feelings on AAPL and the SPY.

Specifically, we targeted SPY Weekly $193-194.50 Calls, and AAPL Weekly $115 and $116 Calls and included the following warning: “Trading options with a weekly expiration on a Friday carries an inherently elevated risk-reward factor, and is certainly not for the faint-of-heart, or beginning traders.” That would have been an important thing to remember, because the markets did pull back toward the end of the day, eventually rendering those contracts worthless, but not before opportunities for some big intraday gains were presented.

Early trading ranges in our SPY Calls rendered the chance at gains between 70-130% while the AAPL Calls did considerably better. The $115’s made a 293% move from .27-1.06, and the $116’s took the cake with a 520% surge from a nickel up to .31!

Heron Therapeutics, Inc. HRTX Puts

We also had some successful ideas going in the opposite direction; our bearish sentiment on HRTX paid some excellent dividends via the options chain last week, as we were mentioning on Friday. The stock continued to backslide into the close, reaching the $30-range with a daily low of 30.06. From our observed high of 42.25 at the time of our initial alert last Wednesday that’s roughly a 30% loss.

It will be interesting to see if this morning’s PR from HRTX affects the dynamics of the chart.

Clean Coal Technologies, Inc. CCTC

We also want to make another quick mention of CCTC, which has continually set new highs for us in the month of September.

We tracked the stock to some more nice gains last week, as it made a healthy intraday move of 21% from .72 to .87. That extends the total range we’ve observed following our initial alerts earlier this month from a low of .36 to Friday’s high; a total move of 142% in just two weeks’ time.

Totally Hemp Crazy, Inc. THCZ

We tagged this old familiar play on Friday for the first time since spring, and it turned out to be fortuitous timing as the stock made a noteworthy intraday jump.  THCZ traded from a low of .09 up as high as .1189, a 32% spike.

We’ll begin to pay closer attention to this and other cannabis-related stocks as election time draws nearer and the issue of marijuana is once again tested on ballots. We’ll be open to the possibility of new waves of attention for the sector as a whole, and be sure to keep our ear to the tracks for relevant developments.

Pier 1 Imports, Inc. PIR

A failure to beat Wall Street’s expectations on both guidance and earnings led PIR to gap down on Friday, though the dip wasn’t sustained. After seeing a low of 6.84 the stock did manage to recover quite a bit of ground into a 7.61 close. This transpired at a time when the chart was already fairly oversold, and that effect has been magnified as we point out on the chart snapshot below.

We’re going to have PIR on an extended-term recovery watch. A return to even the 50DMA would spell significant gains from the current juncture.
