Blue Horseshoe Stocks: GEVO Recap & More

Gevo, Inc. GEVO

We called attention to GEVO in yesterday morning’s premarket report, citing a high-profile PR in which the company announced an agreement with Alaska Airlines (>>Read PR). What resulted was a stroke of flawless timing, with the stock putting up a record performance on the day, and it put a nice cap on what has been a week of multiple great calls.

The stock started out by gapping up into the 3.50’s, and undergoing the dip we were looking for caused by impatient profit-takers, found its daily low of 3.28 and then it was off to the races! The subsequent high came in at 6.11, an unprecedented 86% intraday rip for GEVO, and it occurred on more than 40X the 3-month average trading volume.

The total increase witnessed as of this morning’s premarket high of 7.43 amounts to 126% and marks the second big-board double-bagger we called this week! (Refer to PTBI for the 1st).

The stock has peeled back into the 6.50-range so we could be in line to see another dip-and-style move from GEVO to close out the week. We’ll want to see it maintain a level of support at or above the new 200DMA of 4.90 on any pullbacks.

Tesla Motors, Inc. TSLA

We tagged TSLA in yesterday’s extended watchlist and the stock made a nice move from 220.25 to 237.48. While it translates to an intraday gain of just 8%, the spike caused some serious action in the options chain, which is where we’ll have our attention focused.

The sets of contracts that we’re going to be monitoring for potential opportunities in coming weeks will fall into the range of the 05/22 $230-240 Calls. Our interest, of course, will be predicated upon the stock maintaining support at or above the 200DMA of 227.28.

Motorola Solutions, Inc. MSI

We also want to make a preliminary mention of MSI, which we noticed flirting with levels very near to its 52-week low this week, and it has begun to exhibit signs of a bounce. It’s going to be a stock that we monitor for potential continued rebound action into next week.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Earnings Beats & Bottom-Plays

Bottom-Bouncer Watchlist

Each of the following stocks qualifies as a bottom-bouncer, a couple of which are just coming off freshly-set annual lows. They’ll be reserved a place on our radar as the week comes to a close:

Organovo Holdings, Inc. ONVO – In recent weeks this stock has been under consolidation, and yesterday it found a new 52-week low of 3.99 before rebounding into the close in the low 4.40’s. This morning ONVO is gapping up into the 4.60’s. We’ll have our eyes on this stock, likely over the next few sessions as it attempts to recover off of its annual low.

Neuralstem, Inc. CUR – Following some ill-received news on its ALS drug currently under study yesterday, CUR absolutely fell off a cliff. It’s gapping up in the premarket, so we’re anxious to follow it today. Stocks that get blasted on knee-jerk reaction to news can often see a rapid recovery, so our interest is high in this case.

Endeavor Silver Corp. EXK – This stock is also coming off of a new 52-week low that it recorded on Wednesday. It managed to make higher highs and higher lows during yesterday’s session, and we’ll look for it to continue that trend moving forward.

Earnings Beat Watchlist – Options Ideas

The next pair of companies each had an earnings beat, and are both gapping up over 10% in premarket action this morning. What we’ll do is monitor for dip-and-rip scenarios, and take advantage of In-the-money Calls on the rebound:

El Pollo Loco Holdings, Inc.  LOCO – For this one, we want to radar Weekly $25-26.50 Calls for possible day-trading opportunities.

Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc. ULTA – Here we’ll be observing the action in Weekly $154-155.50 Calls

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Pharma Watchlist & More

Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. LXRX

We’re taking notice of LXRX this morning in the wake of a premarket PR that has the stock trending up to its highest levels of the past three months; it contained updates on current projects as well as increased earnings. The addition of an interesting setup on the chart gives us good reason to place LXRX on watch this mid-week.

As you can see on the snapshot below, the stock gapped down significantly at the end of November. In premarket activity today we’re seeing a partial fill taking place. We’re going to be watching for LXRX to fill the remainder of the gap into the mid 1.20’s where its next area of resistance will come in at the 200DMA of 1.28.

Abercrombie & Fitch ANF fell short of expectations with regard to sales, which is fueling a downtrend here in the premarket, so we’ll take the opposite approach here, and keep an eye on ANF Weekly $23-24 Puts.
