Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Options Review & More

SPDRA S&P 500 ETF (SPY)

After following up a string of successful SPY calls from last week, we added a fresh quick-strike idea yesterday morning. With the markets looking ready to pop after positive jobs numbers were released, we signaled our interest in tracking the SPY 07/09 $275.50-277 Calls.

Trading options with same-day expiry always carries a high risk, but in this case, it was well worth it, with each of our designated contracts producing gains of a significant nature on the day.

$276 Calls – Range: .80-2.01 – Max Gain: 151%
$276.50 Calls – Range: .48-1.42 – Max Gain: 196%

_____

Tesla, Inc. TSLA

An idea that we formulated on Friday was with some extended term TSLA Calls. We wanted to remind readers of these contracts this morning, as the stock is behaving like we might now see the move that we predicted at the end of last week.

The TSLA 08/02 $300-315 Calls should be in line to see some nice gains with the stock itself gapping up hard here in the premarket.

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network, Inc. ANW

Despite the holiday lull this week, we did manage to unearth one interesting play coming off of 4th of July break, which was the sole focus of yesterday morning’s premarket report.

Apart from the big news of a $1B refinancing plan (>>View PR), ANW was exhibiting the telltale signs of an oversold stock ready to rebound, and sure enough, it moved to partially fill the large gap on the chart to the upside. The stock traded from a low of 1.22 and subsequently hit a high of 2.05, which represents an intraday upswing of 68%

The stock fell just a penny shy of its 50DMA yesterday, and with a significant portion of its gap still left to fill, we’ll want to continue to track its movements for the time being.

Tesla, Inc. TSLA

We’ve had our eye on TSLA for the past few sessions as the stock was spiraling downward. At this point in time, we feel it too may in line for a forthcoming recovery swing, and w want to have an options idea handy for such an event.

We’re going to signal our interest in following the TSLA 08/02 $300-315 Calls in the days and weeks ahead.

Galectin Therapeutics, Inc. GALT

We caught GALT for chances at some really nice gains last month as we tagged the stock on June 12th at a low of 5.83. It went on to register a high of 9.49 (+63%) in the days following that report,. After a period of consolidation of leading into this week, the stock has begun to show signs of perhaps its next leg up.

We’ve pointed out why we’re attracted to the current setup of the chart on the snapshot below:

Tesla, Inc. TSLA
When we left off with TSLA on Wednesday after seeing double bag moves in the calls we had tagged the previous day, we stated that we had “reason to believe that we may see some further opportunities in these ideas before the week is out.”.
Those calls were the TSLA Weekly 337.50-347.50 Calls and our assumption that they would provide another wave of gain opportunities proved to be completely accurate. We did in fact get a bigger round of gains which we’ve listed below. These ranges represent a two-day swing from Wednesday’s lows to yesterday’s highs:

$337.50 Calls – Range: 7.50-21.20 – Max Gain: 183%
$340 Calls – Range: 6.07-18.70 – Max Gain: 208%
$342.50 Calls – Range: 4.90-15.98 – Max Gain: 226%
$345 Calls – Range: 4.00-13.78 – Max Gain: 245%
$347.50 Calls – Range: 3.20-11.48 – Max Gain: 259%

Canada Goose Holdings Inc GOOS – Fresh Idea

Despite already being at its annual highs, GOOS is running like scalded dog this morning in the wake of its quarterly earnings report.

We’ve always got our eyes on the earnings calendar to look out for opportunities such as this, to take quick advantage of a rapid rise in volatility. We’re going to slate the GOOS Weekly $50-60 Calls* for observation, which could provide us with a few chances for gains to close out the week.

*Never trade weekly options on a Friday unless you are an expert trader with disposable funds!

Tesla, Inc. TSLA – Options Idea
TSLA stock was running hard after KeyBanc analysts predicted a 50% rise in Model 3 deliveries, and we entered the mix yesterday morning with a set of options ideas to take advantage of the situation. We certainly hope that our words didn’t fall upon deaf ears, because of the five contracts in the range we slated for potential quick strike trades, all five produced single-session gains of over 100%

Our designated targets were the TSLA Weekly 337.50-347.50 Calls and we were very impressed with the total potential gains made available by all of those contracts:

$337.50 Calls – Range: 8.00-19.00 – Max Gain: 138%
$340 Calls – Range: 6.76-17.10 – Max Gain: 153%
$342.50 Calls – Range: 5.75-15.16 – Max Gain: 164%
$345 Calls – Range: 4.97-13.50 – Max Gain: 172%
$347.50 Calls – Range: 4.20-11.90 – Max Gain: 183%

From what we’ve seen thus far, we have reason to believe that we may see some further opportunities in these ideas before the week is out, so we’ll allow them to keep their slots on our radar screens for the time being.

H&R Block, Inc. HRB – Fresh Idea

As a fresh options trading idea this morning, we want to bring attention to HRB, which despite turning in a beat on earnings yesterday in the post market, is taking a beating here in early trading.

Combined with the fact that the stock was already looking toppy and about to breach into heavily overbought territory, we’re ready to look at a range of puts, to take advantage of what may be a significant course correction to the low side. We’ll be tracking the HRB Weekly $26-24 Puts.
