Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Winning Options

ConocoPhillips COP – Recap

We published a light newsletter yesterday morning containing just one specific idea, which was the COP Weekly $61-62.50 Calls. Fortunately, when you come up a solid plays like these, one is all you need!

ConocoPhilips behaved exactly as we suspected, gapping up and continuing to run, and facilitating some very nice single-session profit opportunities for ourselves and our followers. Out of four contracts in our highlighted range, all four produced multi-bag gains on the day.

Those excellent potential gains were as follows:
$61 Calls – Range:  .91-2.00 – Max Gain: 227%
$61.50 Calls – Range: .73-2.11 – Max Gain: 393%
$62 Calls – Range: .51-1.80 – Max Gain: 227%
$62.50 Calls – Range: .36-1.45 – Max Gain: 393%

New Relic Inc. NEWR – Fresh Idea

We also want to bring NEWR into the mix today with a longer-term recovery idea. The stock has not only been bouncing off of recent lows, but we’ve also got some Form-4 activity at these low levels.

We’ll watch NEWR in the weeks and perhaps even months ahead, using the NEWR
12/20 $60-65 Calls
as our potential vehicle.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Perfectly-Timed Bottom Plays & More

Allakos, Inc. ALLK –  Recap

We began tracking ALLK on Monday morning, and formulated some options ideas ($45-60) which worked for us in Monday’s session, bringing in some nice gain opportunities. Then yesterday rolled around and we shared the huge news reported by the company in our premarket report along with the gains that our options ideas made.

The news on ALLK proved to be very influential on the activity of the stock, pushing it even further than Monday’s big surge had taken it. From the low that morning of 60.34, ALLK has run all the way up to a new high yesterday at 85.40, which marked a two-day upswing of 42%

While the lower end of our tracked options range was too deep in the money to see any real progress, the $60 Calls remained in play, and hit a high of 23.82. From our observed low of 6.75 on Monday, those contracts rose by a whopping 253%

We also signaled interest in the Innovative Industrial Properties, Inc. IIPR 08/16 $100-105 Calls
yesterday, and those got off to a modest, yet promising start. The $100’s traded in a range from 6.50-7.90 for a rise of 22%, while the $105’s ran 23% from 4.50-5.90. We’ll continue to monitor these ideas into their expiration next week.

Fresh Ideas:
CVS Weekly $55.50-57 Calls
SPY Weekly $286-285 Puts

Durect Corp DRRX

We also want to highlight the incredible performance that DRRX has had this summer to finish things up this morning. We tagged the stock for observation on May 28th, at which time we observed a low of .50, and it turned out to be a great nbottom call, as it hasn’t looked back since.

Slow and steady growth over the past two months has brought DRRX to a new high of 1.44 this week. That represents an overall increase of 188% in the time we’ve been observing this play.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: PIRS Review & More

Pieris Pharmaceuticals Inc. PIRS – Review

Of all the types of plays we search for, bottom watch plays can require the most amount of patience as compared to other quick-strike ideas that we formulate. We highlighted PIRS as such back in mid-February, and over the past quarter, the stock has produced some very favorable results in two distinct runs.

When we initially signaled our interest in this stock, or shortly thereafter, it was trading for as little as 2.83 and over the course of the next two months, it gradually made its way to 4.00 (+41%). After a pullback down near its original level at 2.81 halfway through last month, the stock has begun to run once again. This time it has reached all new highs, with the stock changing hands for as much as 4.68/share on Friday. That second push allowed us to see an overall increase of 67%

We wouldn’t be at all surprised to have to come back to PIRS once again in the near future. In addition to the company’s joint clinical venture with pharma super giant AstraZeneca, the stock itself has recently received analyst upgrades that could just be the beginning of PIRS’s next leg-up.

Xalles Holdings, Inc. XALL

We are also looking at the incredible momentum recently built up by XALL, which has been assisted by the resurgence of Bitcoin here in 2019, which began in January in the mid-$3000 range, and has persisted to the present time to the current highs near $8700.

The company also recently decreased its public float by around 50%, making it that much easier for the stock to move. We’ll be interested to continue to monitor its progress, especially if the latest Bitcoin boom continues to persist as it has in recent months.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: GERN Recap & More

Geron Corp. GERN – Recap
It’s all well and good to seek out stocks that are set to make a big jump overnight, but slower growth plays also interest us greatly. GERN is an example of a stock that we tagged near the beginning of last month (02.05) which has performed well over an extended period of several weeks.

Subsequent to our tag of GERN, the stock saw a low of 2.025, and in a series of small, incremental daily gains, it steadily made its way up to a high of 4.47 yesterday, representing an increase of 121%. That’s a very respectable gain in roughly a six week period.

Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust, Inc. WHLR

We want to take this opportunity to place WHLR on watch as a potential bottom-play. The stock has been greatly abused over the past several months, falling well below all its moving averages, and reaching egregiously oversold territory. There is also a fairly large gap on chart to the upside, something for which we routinely look.

We’ll keep an eye on WHLR in sessions to come looking for the confirmation of a bounce. It certainly has plenty of room to run when that occurs, so keep a sharp eye out.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: FL Earnings & More

Foot Locker, Inc. FL

The markets took a beating yesterday, and we appear to be headed for another generally bearish session. On a normal day, we’d look for post-earnings plays that had a beat and were gapping up in the premarket. Today, we were looking for an earnings miss and a stock on its way down, and FL fits the mold.

The company’s Q4 earnings disappointed on sales and guidance and it appears that, coupled with current market conditions, a play on some puts may yield quick strike opportunities today. We’re going to zero in on the FL 03/16 $45-41 Puts.

iPath S&P 500 VIX ST Futures (ETN) VXX

As we said, another turbulent day for the markets could be headed our way to finish out the week, so we’re going to want to keep mostly to the bearish side of the street.

Much as the SPY trades with the market, the VXX trades inversely to it. Instead of SPY puts, we’ll go with VXX calls today for another possible quick strike options idea. We’re looking at the VXX Weekly $47-49 Calls.

*Trading weekly options on a Friday should never be attempted unless you are an expert level trader with disposable funds.
