Blue Horseshoe Stocks: BABA, ABIL Recaps & More

Options Recap

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. BABA– There was quite a to-do yesterday morning after BABA went rocketing up in the premarket on raised revenue guidance, and we jumped at the chance to signal some options ideas to correspond with the activity.

In our premarket report we highlighted the BABA Weekly $140-145 Calls  with the explicit warning that “Whenever a stock has gapped up this hard, we must be on the lookout for an early pullback into a dip-and-rip pattern” and we really couldn’t have been more spot-on with how we approached this play if we had a working crystal ball.

We don’t have that, but we do have loads of experience identifying winning options plays, and not only did the stock behave exactly as we said it would, selling off before exploding to new highs, but every single contract we highlighted went bananas as a result.  Regardless of which of our four highlighted contracts was chosen as the strike price, gains ranging from the 1100% to the 3100% range. Not bad for a day’s work!

$140 Calls – Range: .34-4.40 – Max Gain: 1167%
$141 Calls – Range: .25-3.65 – Max Gain: 1360%
$142 Calls – Range: .16-2.87 – Max Gain: 1694%
$143 Calls – Range: .12-2.41 – Max Gain: 1908%
$145 Calls – Range: .05-1.63 – Max Gain: 3160%

We’re going to look for similar chart activity today to lead to further gains in these plays, but as we always do when discussing weekly options on a Friday, we feel obligated to warn our readers that trading such contracts is for EXPERT traders only!
____

Yahoo! YHOO – We were also looking at some YHOO contracts yesterday, although they didn’t have much open interest with the exception of the Weekly $55 Calls. Those ran from .10 to 1.01 for a 910% rip on the day.

Ability, Inc. ABIL

On Wednesday morning we flagged ABIL as a possible bottom-play and the subsequent activity over the ensuing two sessions has been excellent.

The first day it ran from .6298-.91, for a solid 44% rise, and yesterday, it one-upped its performancde with an intraday run from .80 to a new high of 1.69. It was good for a daily pop of 111% and a total two-session upswing over our observed low amounting to 168%

Delcath Systems, Inc. DCTH

We also want to mention DCTH this morning, a stock that had been in a continual downtrend for months on end. It just began to show life yesterday and is gapping up in premarket trading this morning, so we’ll just want to keep an eye peeled.

As we said, this stock has been ridiculously oversold for a long while, so the resulting snapback could turn out to be pretty impressive. .

Options Ideas

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. BABA- After raising revenue guidance by nearly 50%, there has been a mad scramble for shares of BABA in the premarket this morning with the stock shooting up over $15. Whenever we see a feeding frenzy like this, we like to set up camp with some options ideas in an attempt to take advantage of the bullish commotion.

In this case, we’re going to signal the BABA Weekly $140-145 Calls which should do pretty well if the current trajectory is any indicator. Whenever a stock has gapped up this hard, we must be on the lookout for an early pullback into a dip-and-rip pattern, which can happen in these sorts of situations.
____

Yahoo! YHOO – Also gapping up in the premarket considerably is YHOO, and we’re going to keep an eye on a range of contracts here as well. We’ll have the YHOO Weekly $53-56 Calls on watch today.

Bottom-Watchlist Updates

Dragonwave, Inc. DRWI –  We had DRWI on yesterday’s bottom-bouncer watchlist and it’s looking like a really solid play so far. DRWI traded in an intraday range from .94 to 1.24 for a solid 32% move on 9X the 30-day average volume. Not too bad for our first day of observation. We’ll continue to watch DRWI for a continuation of this rebound pattern.
____

Ability, Inc. ABIL– We caught ABIL gapping up slightly off of its own bottom yesterday and it made a very nice move for us. The stock traded in a range from .6298-.91, for a solid 44% pop on 20X the monthly average volume.

Side Note – Caravana Co. CVNA
– We’ll also want to keep a continued eye on CVNA, which we tagged in yesterday’s extended watchlist. It traded up from 10.50-12.83 on the day, and hit 13.03 in the premarket this morning. That’s an increase of 24% and it came on more than four times the three-month average volume.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: YHOO Options Review & More

Yahoo, Inc. YHOO – Options

After an impressive run of tracking multiple winning stock plays in recent sessions, we got back to some options-trading ideas with YHOO yesterday morning and were quite pleased with the result.

YHOO was gapping up early on speculation of a possible sale of its core web business, and we were looking for a way to take advantage of the hustle and bustle. Our signaled range was the YHOO Weekly $34-35.50 Calls and big intraday returns in each set of contracts were there for the taking:

$34 Calls – Trading Range: .97-2.36  – Max Gain: 143%
$34.50 Calls – Trading Range: .64-1.91   – Max Gain: 198%
$35 Calls – Trading Range: .40-1.45 – Max Gain: 263%
$35.50 Calls – Trading Range: .30-1.10 – Max Gain: 266%

It’s worthwhile to mention that big gains were also possible at higher strike prices, and it became apparent very early on. We mentioned this in our chatroom*, and members had the chance at up to 120% gains as the $36 Calls ran from .36-80.

CD International, Enterprises, Inc. CDII

CDII was among a group of plays that we put on our radars at the beginning of the short holiday week that have been jumping off of the page with big gains this week. One of our valued chatroom* participants, DJ, reminded everyone yesterday prior to the opening bell that there was activity in CDII (snapshot below) and everyone had to hold onto their hats from there!

What ensued was a monster run from .0019 to .07, which represents an unreal 3584% intraday romp. The news contained the announcement of a $350M purchase order, and traders went wild trying to soak up shares in what ultimately amounted to a dream-scenario.

We’ll be very interested to continue to track the stock moving forward. After its epic run it pulled back considerably into the close and is currently gapping once again in the premarket to the .035 area. We’ll continue to be interested provided it can hold a minimum of .03 as support once things get going this morning. Ideally we’d like to see the stock break through .04 once again and maintain that as a new level of support.

*We encourage anyone who’d like to get involved with our traders chats, simply send a Skype contact request to username ‘stocksumo’. We’d be happy to let any of our faithful readers get in on the fun!

Tautachrome, Inc. TTCM

We tagged TTCM for observation in yesterday’s extended watchlist, and the stock went on to carve out a solid 30% run from .03 to .039. It pulled back only slightly into the close at .035, and did so on roughly twice the monthly average volume.  It also marked the second day of higher recorded highs and lows for the stock, so we’ll continue to track TTCM provided it can sustain that trend.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: TERP Review & More

TerraForm Power, Inc. TERP

TERP was the stock from yesterday’s track list to really catch our attention with a strong intraday performance. The daily low of 8.07 came within the first ten minutes of trading and we’d see a run to 9.89; a 23% pop.

We’d characterize that as a solid single-session gain for a stock in this price range. It maintained the majority of its daily advance, and did so on roughly eight times its 3-month average volume.

The whole event was apparently caused by a surge in investor interest based on the comments of high-profile hedge fund manager David Tepper  as well as an analyst upgrade. There’s also been a recent influx on attention for the energy sector as a whole. It will be very interesting to see how the stock forges ahead, especially when this morning’s PR (Link to PR) is added to the equation.

Monarch America, Inc. BTFL

We’ve also taken notice as a stock we tagged for tracking last Monday has built up a good head of steam and gone on a nice two-day run this week. BTFL saw a low of .0021 on Monday, and yesterday reached a high of .0094 which marks a swing of 348% for this subpenny mover.

We’ll stay on its trail just as long as it continues to build a higher base level of support going forward.

Energy Finders, Inc. EGYF

EGYF is another play we put on our radars early last week that has produced some exciting swing action in recent sessions. When we first put it on our watchlist it was as low as .0055, and subsequently ran to .0082 the following day (+49%).

That was followed by a dip to .004 on Monday morning, before it broke to a high of .0087 yesterday (+117%). We’ll want to continue to keep an eye on it, considering the fact that it has broken prior resistance on its way to new highs.

Fresh Options Idea – Yahoo, Inc. YHOO

We’re going to signal a range of options contracts that we find attractive this morning as well. YHOO is gapping up in the premarket, so we’re going to be on the lookout for activity in the Weekly $34-35.50 Calls.

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: Earnings-Related Options Ideas & More

Earnings-Related Options Ideas

We’ve entered into another round of high-profile earnings releases, and as our routine readers are well aware, this has become a key device in our seeking of quick-strike profits with options trading.

Ebay, Inc. EBAY
On EBAY, we’re going to size up contracts in the $58.50-60 Call range, looking for a classic dip-and-rip scenario. Usually on a gap-up after an earnings beat we see profit-taking which leads to a pullback followed by a resulting bounce. We look to get positioned in some in-the-money calls on the pullback that we can unload when the rebound occurs.

Caterpillar, Inc. CAT
CAT beat on earnings as well, and the range of contracts that we’re most likely going to find the biggest chances for gains here, should fall between $86-89.  We want to stay in the money with our strike price and roll it up in the event the stock breaks out more sharply.

Petroleo Brasiliero S.A. (Petrobras) PBR

For PBR, which is sliding back following yesterday’s post-market earnings release, we’re going to look for possible opportunities in Weekly Puts in the $9.00-8.50 range, depending on the intensity of the downward pressure we see on the stock as the market opens.

Enzon Pharmceuticals, Inc. ENZN

This is a stock that we want to put on our radars as we head into week’s end; biopharmas have been hot, and ENZN is among those that have been breaking out. We’re anxious to see how this play will continue to fare as it has been streaking into the blue sky.

It’s much like the move we saw in the past couple of weeks from VLTC, which spiked on news of an increased stake by billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn. It so happens that Icahn also owns shares in ENZN, which makes for an interesting side note. We’ll certainly want to keep this one in our sights moving forward.

Yahoo, Inc. YHOO – Options Ideas

If you recall, we were sitting on the fence with our approach to YHOO options yesterday as the internet search giant had fallen short on earnings. We noted that the heaviest action would likely be in the  $44-45 Calls or Puts, depending on the tone of the trend.

It became quickly apparent that YHOO was pulling back further upon the open, and anyone who followed our idea and latched onto the $44 Puts were in for quite a ride as those contracts traded in a range from .17-.55; an intraday swing of 223% The $45 Puts also made a move from .56-1.29, a slightly more subdued yet still very respectable 130%

Great Basin Scientific, Inc. GBSN

We need to congratulate anyone who caught our flag of GBSN in yesterday’s premarket report, as the stock made a healthy intraday run from 4.60-6.10 that could have afforded traders gains of up to 33% on the day on the heels of some FDA-related news.
