Blue Horseshoe: APP, URBN | Retail Focus

American Apparel, Inc. APP

APP is the first of a pair of retail stocks that we are bringing to your attention today in anticipation of the end of summer and upcoming retail season. Kids going back to school, as well as the rush of holiday buying that begins each fall and lasts into winter as folks gear up to celebrate the holidays has been a source of significant opportunity for us in the past. .

In the case of APP, we have a stock that we last mentioned this past fall, with great success. We timed an alert on this play in November ’12 which coincided with the company’s Q3 financials, and were rewarded handsomely for our efforts. At the time, the stock was trading below 1.00 per share, and before winter was over, the stock price had traveled as high as 2.40.

This time, we are revisiting APP before the busy season kicks in, in an attempt to monitor for, and properly time a bottom on the current pullback which started at the end of July. A sharp eye could lead to some serious recovery-profits when we see a reversal and subsequent bounce, so we’re going to be on the lookout for that.

Urban Outfitters, Inc. URBN

In the same vein as APP, we have well-known retail clothing brand, Urban Outfitters. We are bringing this stock into today’s retail discussion as well, mentioning it for the first time.

Earlier this month, URBN gapped up significantly off of an earnings release, an event which was followed by a consolidation which partially filled that gap. Over the past two sessions, the stock has posted higher highs and higher lows, a signal of a potential turnaround, so we are going to be monitoring URBN closely heading into week’s end for a possible confirmation of an uptrend.

It’s also worth mentioning that the company announced the initiation of a share buyback program, which you can read about in the following PR:

PHILADELPHIA, August 28, 2013 – Urban Outfitters, Inc. (URBN), a leading lifestyle specialty retail company operating under the Anthropologie, BHLDN, Free People, Terrain and Urban Outfitters brands, today announced that its Board of Directors has authorized the repurchase of 10 million common shares under a share repurchase program. >>>FULL RELEASE

GNIN, VRNI, EDVP, REDG & Extended Watchlist

Green Innovations Ltd. GNIN

Following our afternoon followup on GNIN yesterday, it rallied to hit a high of 1.60. From Tuesday’s low of a dollar, brings our gain total to 60% With the strength of the close (1.56), we are confident that the uptrend could continue into today’s trading session.

We’d like to continue to see support hold off of the moving averages, specifically the 20DMA at 1.26, in order for us to remain interested in GNIN.  We’ve been intrigued by this play mainly for the setup on the pinching PPO, on the cusp of a cross which could occur as soon as today. For that reason, GNIN will be a focus of ours for the remainder of this week

Virogen, Inc. VRNI

We were pleased with our bounceplay, VRNI, after it ran 25% from .0008-.001 in the morning. Following yesterday’s afternoon update, the stock continued to bounce, pulling back slightly before making a move of 29% from .0007-.0009, giving us the opportunity at intraday gains of 54%

The stock also traded record volume, to the tune 192M shares.

We’d like to continue to see support hold strong at .0006 moving forward.

___

Endeavor Power Corp. EDVP

We focused on EDVP back on January 9th, and the stock was trading at around .068. We saw it pull back to as low as .045, before the stock recently ran to a high of .275. Depending on where folks got it, we’ve already seen between 304-511% in gains from EDVP in just under two month’s time.

We have a new baseline of support following that monster run at .19, which we want to see hold, moving forward. We also have a key level of resistance at the recent .275 high.

APP, GALE & Extended Watchlist

American Apparel, Inc. APP

We’ve been following APP for the better part of a year now, during which time we’ve had several successful calls, and our timing in re-alerting it last Friday couldn’t have been any better. We discussed increased Q3 revenues, as well as the anticipation of heightened sales for the holiday shopping season.

We called for a crossover on both the MACD and the PPO, noticing that they were both pinching, and sure enough, both underwent crosses in the past few sessions. We were also looking for a break of the 200DMA and for the histogram to flip up to the bullish side, which also occurred this week. So it would seem things are right on track for APP in aligning with our expectations. Although it appears, in this case, that we have a crystal ball, we do not. We simply track tons of stocks on a daily basis, and when we find one that reacts well, we continuously monitor for buying opportunities, so that all may have a chance to profit!

We’ve also included a video presentation of the APP Chart:

____

Galena Biopharma, Inc. GALE

GALE, an addition to our extended watchlist yesterday, had an exceptional performance. Having traded as low as 1.6525, and hitting a 1.84 high, the stock afforded folks the chance at a fast 11.5% intraday gain.

GALE ran into major resistance at the 20DMA (1.84), and above that, we can see another obstacle at the 50DMA of 1.86. A break past these points is what we are looking for to unlock some larger gains.

Thus far, pre-market, it looks as if the stock could gap up upon the open, trading as high as 1.90 already this morning.

American Apparel, Inc. | APP | Today’s Focus

Good morning traders, we hope everyone had a pleasant holiday. Black Friday signals the beginning of a period of heightened sales for retailers, which is why we’d like to turn our attention to an old retail favorite of ours:

___

American Apparel, Inc. APP

We’d like to revisit APP, as it has been good to us in the past. From August to October the stock ran from .82 to 1.70, for gains upwards of 107%

The company recently released third quarter figures showing positive growth in many areas, perhaps most notably, a net sales increase of “15% to $162.2 million on a 20% increase in comparable store sales in the retail business.”

With a strong holiday season, the rate of growth for APP could continue to climb, along with the price of the stock. We are revisiting this stock at a relative bottom on what looks like a ripening chart.

As you can plainly on the chart above, we have an RSI that is coming off of being oversold, as well as a MACD that is in the midst of a cross. The PPO is pinching in as well, and it would appear the histogram is ready to flip up to the bullish side, making now a fine time to take a look at APP. We will be on the lookout, because if this stock can break above the 200DMA of .97, we could begin to see drastic increases.____

EGCT, CGUD & Extended Watchlist

Ecologic Transportation, Inc. EGCT

We brought EGCT back into focus yesterday and the stock performed as we had hoped, making higher highs and higher lows for the second consecutive day. After gapping up in the morning, the stock held all day above the moving averages (20, 50, 100DMA’s), never dipping below .30.

The RSI punched through the 50 Line as well as the 50 MA overlay, and is getting ready to make its way into the powerzone. The blue bars on the histogram look ready to jump up to the bullish side, and the PPO is pinching toward a cross which could come as soon as today. The Slow STO also had a cross. All the indicators are improving on yesterday’s outlook as the stock bounces back from being oversold. Twice now we’ve seen EGCT run to the mid-to-high .40’s. This time around, we are looking to breach the .46-.48 area, as a break past that level would mean pressing new highs.

____

Com-Guard.com, Inc. CGUD

We are adding this play to our radars today as a result of yesterday’s huge volume increase. The stock has a 3mo average volume under a million shares; yesterday it traded over 15 million shares, leading us to believe that something big could be brewing.

According to OTCMarkets.com, the last reported shares outstanding was just under 380 million, with a float of just 65 million. If those figures are still accurate, yesterday’s volume accounts for a quarter of the total float. Should the buying continue into today, the float could be locked down, leading to a massive run.

____

Added Note: Last week we highlighted Apple options, and we made out pretty well with the $680 Calls. This week we saw a pullback going into Wednesday, as the 680’s traded as low as .70. Yesterday’s high was over 7.00; for anyone in Wednesday and out yesterday, you could have been looking at up to 1000% in gains. It isn’t the first time we’ve seen a ten-bagger around here, but it is always exciting when it happens. We are keeping an eye on these calls as Apple gaps up and tests new 52-wk highs.
