Blue Horseshoe Stocks: TVIX Update & More

VelocityShares Daily 2X VIX ST ETN (TVIX)

As we’re sure everyone is aware, we’ve seen the biggest two-day downturn for the markets in history. Luckily, we had already added TVIX to our watchlist in our report on the morning of January 30th.

We began tracking this fund, which trades inversely to the market as a whole, and subsequently observed a low of 5.50. With the market bloodbath yesterday, the TVIX was pushed to a new high of 14.77.

That landed our total possible gain on this play at 169% but that figure has grown even further as a new high of 20.30 was registered in premarket trading this morning putting our total observed range on the TVIX at 269% over a span of just a few sessions.

Lumentum Holdings Inc. LITE

We’re also seeing a stock that is bucking the trend this morning. Even as it appears we’re headed for another down day in general, LITE is gapping up in the market after having recently bounced off of its lowest PPS since last May.

We’re actually going to go bullish on this one, and signal the LITE Weekly $44-46 Calls for observation.

Quotient Ltd. QTNT

Speaking of bounceplays, QTNT is looking interesting as well. We wanted to quickly make note of this. As you can see on the chart snapshot included below, it saw some surprising activity yesterday but came back to settle below 3.00, with the MACD on the cusp of a bullish cross and the RSI giving off a heavily oversold signal.

We’ll keep an peeled here as well, for another possible bucking of the ominous trend currently underway for the markets at large.

We have to swing back around and provide yet another update after the opportunities to profit really kicked into gear yesterday. The intraday moves and gains on the table were as follows:

$352.50 Calls – Range: 2.90-8.75 – Max Gain: 202%
$355 Calls – Range: 1.70-6.99  – Max Gain: 311%

Mastercard, Inc. MA

We added ideas for the Mastercard chain as well in yesterday’s premarket report  with the MA Weekly $170-175 Calls. Those also turned out to provide the chances for some very nice intraday gains.

After the company beat solidly on earnings with rising revenues, the stock went on a run that was sufficient to create these moves on the day:

$170 Calls – Range: 2.00-5.00 – Max Gain: 150%
$172.50 Calls – Range: .80-2.70 – Max Gain: 238%
$175 Calls – Range:  .24-1.05 – Max Gain: 338%

Blue Horseshoe Stocks: CVS Options & More

CVS Health Corp CVS

First up this morning, we’re taking a look at CVS, which is currently boasting an interesting chart setup along with a recent analyst upgrade.

The stock recently ran to an area of previous resistance near $84, and is currently down in the premarket along with the markets in general, but we’re going to be looking for a recovery.

As you can see on the annotated chart below, there appears to be an impending Golden Cross, with the 50DMA rising toward the 200DMA, and with the company’s quarterly earnings call slated for February 8th, we’re going to signal some options that could see some nice activity.

We’re going to radar the CVS 02/09 $77-80 Calls which will expire at the end of next week, and could explode with a favorable quarterly report.

Ballard Power Systems, Inc. BLDP – Update

We couldn’t have timed yesterday morning’s call of BLDP any better, outlining the reasons we thought the stock was ripe for a reversal. Among other things, it had strung together ten consecutive sessions of decreases or sideways trading, and yesterday brought the beginning of the rebound that we suspected was due.

From an early low of 3.39, BLDP made a modest, yet convincing move of 19% to a high of 4.04, before closing very near to the high of day at 4.02. It’s a good start, and we’ll want to see the stock continue to record higher highs and higher lows, and show some signs of sustaining its momentum.

Adding to the possibility of a continued uptrend is a PR regarding the company’s Protonex subsidiary this morning outlining a government purchase order of $1.6M for its power management systems for special operations military equipment.(>>View PR)
